Hilltop Securities is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Paralegal to support the Legal Department in managing legal matters, responding to subpoenas and information requests, reviewing contracts, conducting legal research, and maintaining legal records. The Paralegal will leverage traditional research techniques and emerging AI-powered tools to efficiently gather information, analyze legal documents, and support attorneys in addressing legal and regulatory matters. The ideal candidate will work independently, exercise sound judgment, and maintain strict confidentiality while managing multiple projects.
Responsibilities- Coordinate and prepare responses to subpoenas, regulatory requests, garnishments, and other legal information requests.
- Gather, review, organize, and analyze records and documents required for subpoena and litigation-related matters.
- Draft correspondence, response letters, legal memoranda, and other legal documents for attorney review.
- Review contracts, non-disclosure agreements, vendor agreements, and other legal documents to identify legal, operational, and compliance issues.
- Conduct legal, regulatory, and factual research using traditional and AI-assisted research tools.
- Summarize legal matters, investigations, and contract provisions for attorneys and business stakeholders.
- Maintain and organize legal files, records, and document repositories in accordance with company policies.
- Monitor changes in laws, regulations, and industry developments and provide updates to legal staff.
- Collaborate with internal departments to obtain information necessary for legal reviews and subpoena responses.
- Analyze data and documentation to support legal and compliance inquiries.
- Assist attorneys with special projects, audits, litigation support, and corporate governance matters.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, Business, or a related field preferred.
- Paralegal certification preferred.
- Two (2) to four (4) years of paralegal, legal assistant, compliance, or related legal experience.
- Experience preparing subpoena responses, responding to legal information requests, or supporting litigation matters preferred.
- Experience reviewing and analyzing contracts and legal documents.
- Familiarity with legal research methodologies and legal databases.
- Experience using AI-powered research tools, including Microsoft Copilot or similar technologies, to enhance legal research, document review, and information gathering is a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management abilities.
- Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of financial services, securities industry regulations, or corporate legal operations.
- Experience with document management systems and electronic records retention practices.
- Ability to identify legal and compliance risks and communicate findings effectively to attorneys and business partners.
