Acting under the direction and supervision of the Associate General Counsel, provides general paralegal functions in support of the contracting and insurance functions and responsibilities of the Associate General Counsel, as well as in support of the more general legal needs of the WVU Health System’s Legal department.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Bachelor’s Degree OR Four years of high level administrative experience in a law firm or healthcare organization.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Paralegal certificate from an accredited organization.
EXPERIENCE:
1. Three Years’ experience related to drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts, leases, employee agreements, memoranda of understanding, non-disclosure agreements, intellectual property instruments, and other forms of commercial contracting instruments.
2. Three Years’ experience with healthcare related laws and regulations such as Stark, fraud and abuse and similar laws.
3. Three Years’ experience with commercial insurance and self-insurance programs.
4. Three Years’ Experience in a private law firm, governmental agency legal department, or in house legal department.

1. Reviews contract terms and conditions making sure that they comply with federal and state laws and company policies.
2. Assists WVU Medicine personnel in interpreting contract terms and conditions that might apply.
3. Monitor governmental websites for excluded parties on governmental and OIG websites.
4. Provide training of the contract requirements to various personnel.
5. Responsible, as assigned, for drafting, analyzing, and negotiating contracts, under supervision of Associate General Counsel.
6. Required to write amendments to contracts in order to improve on service or change policy procedures that meet the need of the customer and the company.
7. Show proficiency with contract language, copyright principles, and computer systems.
8. Convey to the proper parties in the corporation about any new changes to a contract and what they mean.
9. Effectively access various relevant Internet resources.
10. Reviews contracts for key elements in accordance with policy and law.
11. Prepares, reviews, and, when directed, negotiates, contracts on behalf of affiliated entities protecting the corporation's interests.
12. Assist in populating and maintaining the legal Department’s contracts management system.
13. Supports the WVU Medicine Legal Services Department in all matters. Will provide support to other counsel and staff within the Department as needed.
14. Will oversee entry of new matters into system.
15. Will manage close out of completed files, including entry into contracts management system.
16. Will ensure that files are complete and ready for close out.
17. Will perform sanctions screenings of all vendors and other due diligence and make record thereof.
18. Participates in continuing education activities to develop and maintain professional expertise.
19. Assists in training other personnel as directed.
20 Provides adequate notice to Associate General Counsel prior to absence or lateness in accordance with departmental policy.
21. Maintains proper attendance, in accordance with hospital policy.
22. Works weekends and evenings on occasion as may reasonably be required in order to fulfill obligations
23. Reports to work on time in accordance with hospital policy.
24. Promotes and contributes positively to the teamwork of the department by volunteering to assist co-workers, contributing ideas and problem-solving with co-workers as observed by Associate General Counsel.
25. Participates in planning and implementing change and maintaining and improving productivity through attendance and participation in staff meetings and discussions with Associate General Counsel.
