BCFS Health & Human Services – Community Services Division

Education:    Required - Enrolled in Bachelor’s degree program in an accredited university, preferably in one of the following areas: Psychology, Social Work, Public Health, Educaton, Counseling, Sociology, Criminal Justice, or related field of study.

Preferred - Enrolled in a Master Level Program

Experience:    Required – Must have basic assessment skills and ability to work as part of a team and as an individual.

Preferred - Experience working with individuals and families. Experience working with adolescent youth who are at-risk-youth. Must have basic assessment skills and ability to work as part of a team and as an individual. Preferred: Experience in crisis intervention, de-escalation, and providing direct services for foster/former foster youth.
Summary:    The PAL TFSS Intern will be responsible for using sound professional judgement and best practices to ensure quality services are provided to
the service population especially in crises situations while maintaining compliance with established state and federal standards.

Essential Functions:
1.    Must be able to commit to at least one semester.
2.    Possess excellent interpersonal, verbal, written and organizational skills.
3.    Ability to organize and prioritize duties and responsibilities efficiently.
4.    Possess sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socio-economic characteristics.
5.    Ability to maintain confidentiality with clients and staff.
6.    Ability to manage time efficiently and effectively,
7.    Excellent group facilitation skills.
8.    Public speaking, listening and written communication skills.
9.    Ability to establish and maintain effective, professional working relationships with other employees, staff, and the public.
10.    Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
11.    Must pass criminal background check.
12.    Frequently travel with transition specialists within region to provide services to youth.
13.    Meet all deadlines required by program supervisor and state/federal partners.
14.    Students will maintain liability insurance throughout their internship/practicum experience(s).

Measurable Deliverables:
1.    Meet all federal and state regulatory guidelines and standards that are applicable to this position.
2.    Assist in facilitating Life Skills groups classes and manage classroom behaviors.
3.    Participate in case staffing with case managers, supervisor, DFPS and contracted staff in assigned region.
4.    Conduct follow up calls and/or visits to youth/families in crises situations.
5.    Ability to connect and maintain rapport with youth and families at-risk.
6.    Obtain and maintain community partnerships and utilize community resources to enhance PAL Case Management services.
7.    Ensure approval has been received for youth training (Authorization Form 2054) from DFPS PAL staff before allowing young adults to receive services.
8.    Maintains files and program documentation, including data entry, accurately and on time.
9.    Reviews all program records to ensure proper documentation and delivery of services.
10.    Attend all-staff meetings and PAL team meetings.
11.    Maintain and enforce a positive and effective team environment.
12.    Supports other transition services as needed.
13.    Report any suspected abuse or neglect to the Director and appropriate law enforcement agency within 24 hours.
14.    Participate in workshops, seminars, education programs and activities that promote professional growth and development.
15.    Review children’s records in accordance with agency policies and procedures and applicable licensing and contract standards.
16.    Compile, prepare, submit and maintain accurate records, files, forms and additional information in accordance with agency policies, licensing and/or contract requirements.
17.    Work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed or requested by the program director.
18.    Implement BCFS safety protocols including evacuating with children and other staff in case of an emergency.
19.    Maintain confidentiality in all areas of the service population and program operations.
20.    Maintain BCFS HHS professional and ethical standards of conduct outlined in the BCFS employee handbook including demonstrating respect for agency staff, the service population, and community members and complying with the required dress code, at all times.

Credentials, Skills and Abilities:
1.    Maintain current licenses and certificates required for the position including but not limited to:
 First Aid  CPR     Other      
2.    Pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug screens and maintain emotional control, and professional composure, at all times.
3.    Provide proof or work eligibility status upon request.
4.    Pass a pre-employment and biennial criminal background and motor vehicle check (fingerprints needed if applicant has lived out of state within the past 5 years)
5.    Demonstrate the ability to:
a.    Respond sensitively and competently to the service population’s cultural and socio- economic characteristics.
b.    Communicate effectively in writing and verbally in English.
c.    Work in a fast-paced environment.
d.    Maintain computer literacy required to meet the responsibilities of the position.
e.    Work effectively and without intensive supervision both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
f.    Travel as needed.
g.    Manage time effectively and efficiently.
6.    Demonstrate a working knowledge of all Community Services Division policies and procedures.
7.    Bilingual preferred (Spanish)
