  • Location: Schertz, TX
  • Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
  • Territory: Schertz, San Antonio, Laredo, Pharr and the Rio Grande Valley, and Corpus Christi
  • Compensation: $60,000 base salary plus uncapped commission. First-year commission earnings of about $30,000 to $40,000 are realistic, for total earning potential of $90,000 to $100,000 in year one.
  • Travel: Regular travel across the territory, including overnight travel about once a week

Job Summary

The Customer Development Manager is a sales position. The CDM manages and grows the assigned accounts in the Business Unit (BU) by getting customers interested in additional Ryder services, including Full Service Lease, Programmed Maintenance, Lease Financing, Fleet Management Services and Dedicated Contract Carriage. The CDM does this by following the Ryder Sales Process.


This is an outside sales role with a base salary plus commission. You'll take over an established book of about 80 to 90 customer accounts, and you're expected to both manage those relationships and grow them by selling more Ryder services. You'll join a tenured South Texas sales team and train alongside an experienced CDM as you get started.


Essential Functions

  • Keep in regular, consistent contact with customers to meet their needs and find new sales opportunities. Build a sales penetration plan. Segment the account base by growth opportunity and by risk. Present Ryder services and capabilities. Build relationships with everyone who influences the customer's buying decisions. Learn the customer's business, goals and objectives in depth. Work with RIL to find ways to apply those services where they fit. Act as the link between the customer and Ryder departments or vendors.
  • Grow revenue within the existing book of business by identifying and closing new sales opportunities with current customers.
  • Make sure customers receive the services in their contracts. Build a productive working relationship with each customer and keep the right level of contact. Understand and manage how satisfied customers feel. Hold regularly scheduled customer reviews. Monitor CSI results by account. Know the competitive alternatives. Help new accounts transition smoothly after the sale.
  • Anticipate problems through ongoing conversations with customers and Ryder staff. Give customers information about operational performance. Learn each customer's business and operations.
  • Track customer activity, opportunities and pipeline in Salesforce.
  • Travel throughout the South Texas territory to meet customers face to face, including overnight travel.
  • Keep developing sales skills, industry knowledge and personal growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Transportation or a related field, or equivalent experience, required
  • Five (5) or more consecutive years of proven sales and customer relationship management experience in previous sales roles required
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred
  • Experience with Salesforce or another CRM preferred

Compensation Information:

The compensation offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s relevant experience; education, including relevant degrees or certifications; work location; market data/ranges; internal equity; internal salary ranges; etc. The position may also be eligible to receive an annual bonus, commission, and/or long-term incentive plan based on the level and/or type. Compensation ranges for the position are below:
