Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist instructors with laboratory, shop, and hands-on instructional activities.
  • Support student learning by reinforcing proper techniques, safety procedures, and best practices.
  • Assist with the setup, operation, cleanup, and organization of laboratory and classroom activities.
  • Monitor laboratory and shop environments to promote a safe and productive learning experience.
  • Demonstrate the proper use, care, and maintenance of tools, equipment, and instructional resources.
  • Assist with routine maintenance, organization, and inventory of equipment, tools, consumable supplies, and instructional materials.
  • Report damaged, unsafe, or missing equipment to the appropriate instructor or department head.
  • Assist instructors in evaluating student competencies and practical skill development as appropriate.
  • Provide individual or small-group instructional assistance and tutoring when requested by the instructor.
  • Encourage student engagement while supporting retention, attendance, and academic success initiatives.
  • Assist with classroom, laboratory, and campus events including orientations, demonstrations, open houses, advisory committee meetings, and recruitment activities.
  • Support curriculum improvement efforts and provide feedback regarding laboratory operations and instructional resources.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional laboratory environment that reflects industry standards.
  • Follow all institutional policies, OSHA requirements, manufacturer recommendations, and program safety procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with institutional policies and applicable regulations.
  • Model Oklahoma Technical College's CARES values and demonstrate professionalism, integrity, teamwork, adaptability, and a student-centered approach.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Head, Director of Education, or Campus Director.

  • Represents Oklahoma Technical College professionally both on and off campus.
Qualifications

Term of Appointment

  • This is a temporary position. Employment is intended to be transitional and may not exceed 6 months, unless extended by the Campus Director based on institutional needs, program requirements, and employee performance.

OTC Lab Assistant

This position will be designated to Diesel, however will be cross trained and utilized in other program lab settings.

Minimum Requirements:  

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Postsecondary education, technical training, or completion of a related career training program preferred.
  • One (1) year of experience in an educational, laboratory, shop, or industry setting preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, and safety practices associated with technical training programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and maintain a professional demeanor.
  • Current industry certifications related to the assigned program are preferred but not required.

Skills Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Postsecondary education, technical training, or related career training program

  • Demonstrated knowledge of tools, equipment, materials, and safety practices associated with technical training programs
