Job Summary

Job Purpose

Digitalization of the factory is a challenge for all organizations. Connecting the shop floor must be a global project if aiming at becoming a smart factory. By breaking the cultural boundaries between Information technologies (IT) and Operation technologies (OT) Imerys is currently building its own path towards Industry 4.0.

The Digital Twin Engineer will play a pivotal role in driving digital transformation within our organization. This individual will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing a robust data infrastructure, leveraging OPC UA technology to create digital twins and streamline operational processes. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in industrial automation, data engineering, and cloud technologies, with a proven track record of delivering innovative solutions.

This position is part of IT/OT Data & Architecture global team.

Responsibilities

Digital Twin Development

  • Architect and implement digital twins of critical industrial assets using OPC UA technology

  • Develop data models and integration strategies to capture real-time data from sensors, controllers, and other OT systems

  • Utilize digital twins to optimize asset performance, predict failures, and simulate operational scenarios

OPC UA Expertise

  • Lead the adoption and implementation of OPC UA standards across the organization

  • Develop and maintain OPC UA-based data models

  • Troubleshoot and resolve OPC UA-related issues

Industrial Automation Integration

  • Integrate OT systems (e.g., PLCs, SCADA, MES) with the data infrastructure using OPC UA and other protocols

  • Facilitate in the development of  data pipelines to extract, transform, and load  data from OT systems into the data lake

Data Infrastructure Design

  • Design, develop, and maintain a scalable and secure data infrastructure to support industrial operations

  • Select and implement appropriate data storage and processing technologies (e.g., relational databases, time series databases, data lakes)

  • Ensure data quality, consistency, and security throughout the data lifecycle

Data Analytics and Visualization

  • Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to enable advanced data analytics and visualization capabilities

  • Develop dashboards and reports to provide actionable insights into operational performance

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in automation, Information Systems, or Engineering

  • 2 years of professional hands-on experience with industrial digital platforms and application management 

  • Familiarity with  OPC UA technology, including data modeling, communication protocols, and security.

  • Experience with industrial automation systems (PLCs, SCADA, MES) and protocols (Modbus, EthernetIP, MQTT).

  • Knowledge of Object Oriented Design Concepts

  • Basic knowledge of UML modeling techniques to design an object model 

  • Basic knowledge of relational / time series databases 

  • Fluent or native English speaker.

Desirable

  • Experience with digital twin development methodologies and tools.

  • Familiarity with tools like Enterprise Architect, Siemens- SIOMI and UAExpert is a plus

  • Experience of working within a culturally diverse global company

  • Experience in multidisciplinary team management

  • Conversant in French or another European language would be advantageous
