The Role

Role & Responsibilities : 

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for coordinating with field vendors on outside plant (OSP) fiber work, including splicing, testing, cutovers, and restoration efforts.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to schedule, plan, and perform network maintenance with minimal customer impact.

  • Manage relationships with vendors and cross-functional teams, ensuring smooth coordination of tasks and deliverables.

  • Organize and lead meetings with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and progress.

  • Perform pre-maintenance circuit and path draining activities to safely reroute or shut down affected traffic, ensuring service continuity during fiber work.

  • Conduct post-maintenance testing using OTDR, and remote diagnostics to verify optical path integrity and ensure work quality.

  • Review and maintain accurate fiber documentation, including splice diagrams, routing sheets, as-built drawings, and GIS-based records.

  • Issue clear instructions, scopes of work, and test expectations to third-party contractors and ensure work is completed to standards.

  • Update and validate all fiber records and maintenance logs post-activity, ensuring clean documentation for future reference and audits.

  • Follow MOP (Method of Procedure) processes for planned network changes and ensure proper approvals and communication are in place.

  • Create and maintain detailed records, including MOPs (Methods of Procedure), SOWs (Statements of Work), SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), and job aids.

  • Provide regular updates and documentation for project progress and outcomes.

  • Be part of a rotating shift or on-call schedule to provide continuous support for planned and unplanned fiber network activities.

Required Skills & Experience : 

  • Experience managing OSP fiber infrastructure, maintaining accurate records, and adhering to fiber documentation standards.

  • Understanding of fiber splicing techniques and splice documentation; experience analyzing splice plans and identifying issues remotely.

  • Knowledge of OTDR testing principles with experience interpreting traces to identify faults, losses, and fiber breaks.

  • Proficient in using GIS-based fiber management tools to maintain and audit network records.

  • Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance requirements related to OSP work

  • Knowledge of optical power levels, light budget calculation, and acceptable performance thresholds for long-haul and metro fiber.

  • Understanding of optical transport technologies including DWDM/CWDM, OTN, Ethernet over fiber, and basic WDM channel planning.

  • Reading and interpreting construction drawings and splicing schematics for verification and record-keeping.

  • Proven ability to remotely coordinate with vendors and contractors for fiber maintenance and troubleshooting tasks.

  • Understanding of NOC operations with experience in remote fiber monitoring, ticketing, and outage response.

  • Ability to document fiber changes, outages, and resolutions clearly and accurately using standard tools and formats.

  • Familiarity with various software tools such as FIM, ACC, Gaudi, Ultron, and Glassworks (Nice to have).

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with field teams, vendors, and internal stakeholders.

Qualification: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 5 years of experience in the related field.

  • Specialized training and/or certification, Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) or equivalent certifications from the Fiber Optic Association (FOA), OTDR Testing, GIS Certification.

  • Additional Knowledge Areas (Optional but Beneficial); Training in software tools such as FIM, ACC, Gaudi, Ultron, and Glassworks, Knowledge of telecommunications industry standards (e.g., ITU-T, ANSI, and IEEE)
