Position Purpose:

At Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, the Operating Room RN supports surgical patients within the Connecticut Joint & Spine Institute, delivering safe, high-quality care in a collaborative, patient-centered environment. This position will rotate between Orthopedic Operating Room suites in the Institute and the Main Operating Room to support Orthopedic Traumas.

What You Will Do:

  • Provide intraoperative care by performing circulating and/or scrub duties, including patient positioning, site prep, instrumentation, and sterile technique.

  • Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure efficient, coordinated care throughout procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing school

  • Valid RN license in Connecticut

  • Ideal candidates will have Intraoperative Operating Room nursing experience, particularly in Orthopedic surgical procedures, including circulating and/or scrub roles.

Preferred:

  • Current BLS/CPR (AHA or Red Cross)

  • Familiarity with AORN standards

Important Consideration:

This role is not designed for new graduates or those seeking training through the Periop 101 program. Candidates must be able to function independently in the Orthopedic OR.

Position Highlights:

  • Part-Time: 24hrs/week – Day Shift

  • Three (3) 8-hour shifts with rotating weekends/holidays

  • Participation in on-call is required, based on unit needs

  • Specialty pay is available exclusively to experienced nurses with one or more years of RN experience

  • Hourly position, included in RN Step Program pay range: $36.15 to $59.95

Skills Required

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing school
  • Valid Registered Nurse license in Connecticut
  • Ability to function independently in the orthopedic operating room
  • Intraoperative operating room nursing experience, particularly in orthopedic procedures, including circulating and/or scrub roles
  • Current BLS/CPR certification from the American Heart Association or Red Cross
  • Familiarity with AORN standards
  • At least one year of Registered Nurse experience for specialty pay eligibility
