Position Overview

The Order Processing Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership and direct supervision over warehouse associates and order processing functions within the Distribution Center. This role oversees customer order assignment, order waving, fulfillment workflow, labor coordination, and daily operational performance to ensure customer orders are processed accurately, efficiently, and on time.

The Supervisor serves as the critical link between customer order flow and warehouse fulfillment operations. This position is responsible for coordinating labor resources, monitoring system workflows and work queues, prioritizing and releasing customer orders, ensuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs).

The ideal candidate is a strong team leader with warehouse experience, excellent computer and organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively manage changing operational priorities in a fast-paced distribution environment.

This is an on-site position.

Key ResponsibilitiesOperational Leadership & Supervision
  • Provide direct leadership and supervision to warehouse associates and order processing personnel.
  • Responsible for the overall performance and achievement of daily productivity, service, quality, and operational requirements for assigned areas.
  • Plan, organize, staff, direct, and monitor warehouse personnel to ensure efficient operations.
  • Schedule staffing levels and allocate labor based on workload, order volume, and operational requirements.
  • Coordinate with other Supervisors and Managers to adjust labor allocation and operational priorities as business demands change.
  • Maintain proactive communication with team members and management throughout the work shift.
  • Promote accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and operational excellence.
Order Processing & Order Assignment
  • Utilize warehouse management and distribution software systems to wave, prioritize, release, and assign customer orders to Order Pickers and other warehouse associates.
  • Prioritize orders based on established criteria, shipping deadlines, customer requirements, product availability, and operational priorities.
  • Continuously monitor work queues, order assignment dashboards, and system activity to maintain a steady and balanced workflow throughout the Distribution Center.
  • Ensure customer orders are processed and released accurately and in accordance with Company SOPs.
  • Monitor order flow to identify potential delays, bottlenecks, or resource constraints and take appropriate action.
  • Coordinate with warehouse leadership to ensure orders are processed in a manner that supports daily shipping requirements and customer service expectations.
Labor & Workflow Coordination
  • Monitor workload and available labor throughout the shift and adjust order processing strategies accordingly.
  • Coordinate with Supervisors and Managers regarding staffing requirements, workload changes, and shifting operational priorities.
  • Balance order volume and labor resources to maximize productivity and maintain service levels.
  • Identify workflow issues and make recommendations to improve efficiency, accuracy, and overall order processing performance.
Team Performance & Development
  • Provide ongoing direction, coaching, feedback, and retraining to warehouse associates as needed.
  • Monitor individual and team performance and address performance concerns in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
  • Support onboarding and training of new employees.
  • Reinforce established SOPs, quality standards, productivity expectations, and safety requirements.
  • Recognize strong performance and promote a positive, team-oriented work environment.
  • Maintain professional and courteous relationships while effectively leading employees with diverse backgrounds and experience levels.
System Monitoring & Problem Solving
  • Monitor warehouse systems, order queues, dashboards, and other technology used to support order processing.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve routine system, order release, inventory, and workflow issues.
  • Investigate order processing discrepancies and take corrective action when appropriate.
  • Escalate complex system or operational issues to management or IT support as needed.
  • Identify recurring issues and communicate opportunities for process improvement.
Performance Reporting & Administration
  • Accurately record and report daily operational achievements, including order release volume, team throughput, productivity, service levels, and KPI performance.
  • Maintain accurate records related to order processing, labor utilization, and team performance.
  • Utilize Microsoft Excel and other systems to track, analyze, and report operational data.
  • Communicate daily performance results, operational concerns, and staffing or workflow issues to management.
  • Complete administrative duties associated with warehouse operations and order fulfillment.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with all Company safety policies, equipment procedures, housekeeping standards, SOPs, and operational guidelines.
  • Promote a safe, clean, organized, and productive warehouse environment.
  • Ensure employees properly follow established processes and procedures.
  • Maintain a strong focus on order accuracy, inventory integrity, quality, and customer service.
  • Report safety concerns, equipment issues, and operational hazards promptly.
Order Fulfillment & Operational Support
  • Provide hands-on operational support when necessary to meet customer order deadlines and daily shipping requirements.
  • Assist with activities such as printing labels, preparing shipping documentation, resolving order issues, and other administrative or warehouse support functions.
  • Be prepared to assist in warehouse operations during periods of increased workload or staffing needs.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements


RequirementsExperience
  • Minimum one to three years of direct warehouse experience in a fast-paced manufacturing or distribution environment where small parcel and LTL/LT customer order processing occurs.
  • Previous supervisory, lead, or team leadership experience in a warehouse or distribution environment preferred.
  • Experience coordinating workflow, labor resources, order fulfillment, or warehouse operations highly preferred.
  • Experience working with customer order processing and shipping deadlines preferred.
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Technology
  • Extensive familiarity with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), ERP systems, and/or distribution software is highly preferred.
  • Strong computer skills and demonstrated ability to work in computer-based warehouse systems.
  • Proficiency with email and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel for data tracking and reporting.
  • Ability to quickly learn and effectively utilize new software, technology, and distribution systems.

Physical Requirements

This role is physically active and requires regular movement throughout the warehouse during the work shift.

  • Ability to move freely throughout warehouse and office environments.
  • Frequent standing and walking during work hours.

  • Ability to climb stairs and walk on concrete flooring.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and other physical movements.

  • Ability to work in a warehouse environment with temperature changes, machinery noise, operational movement, and mechanized material handling equipment.
