Summary Generated by Built In

Digantara is redefining space safety and sustainability. As a leader in Space Surveillance and Intelligence, we deliver real-time, actionable insights to ensure secure and sustainable use of Earth’s orbits. Our cutting-edge platform integrates advanced space-based detection, tracking, and monitoring to provide unparalleled domain awareness across all orbital regimes. At the cutting edge of this technology, Digantara is building hardware and mission-critical software. But behind every successful team is an invisible engine that keeps projects moving with clarity, speed, and precision.

We are seeking an Optomechanical Engineer to join our team in the development of space-based and ground-based imaging instruments, including advanced telescopes and scientific camera systems. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to drive designs from initial concept through to manufacturing, integration, testing, and deployment. The role also requires meticulous documentation, quality control, and collaboration with vendors and cross-functional technical teams.

Why Us:
  • Be part of a collaborative and innovative environment where your ideas and skills make a real difference to the entire space realm.

  • Push the boundaries with hands-on experience, greater responsibilities, and rapid career advancement.

  • Competitive incentives, a galvanizing workspace, and a blazing team—pretty much everything you have heard about a startup.

Ideal Candidate:
  • Has designed and delivered optomechanical mechanisms using a mix of classical analysis and simulation.

  • Can interpret system error budgets and apply tolerance/sensitivity analysis.

  • Is adept at cross-functional collaboration and technical communication.

  • Has successfully completed at least one full-fledged project.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop innovative optomechanical designs for telescope systems and high-precision optical assemblies for both terrestrial and space applications.

  • Collaborate closely with optical, mechanical, electronics, thermal, and systems engineering teams to define project requirements and design constraints, ensuring the mechanical and optical integration meets stringent mission objectives.

  • Perform feasibility studies and technical risk assessments, including sensitivity, tolerance, and deformation analysis under operational and environmental loads such as gravity, vibration, and thermal cycling.

  • Utilize CAD software to create detailed models, mechanical layouts, assembly drawings, and technical documentation. (Proficiency in specific tools such as SolidWorks, NX, or similar is valued but not strictly required.)

  • Conduct structural and thermal FEA as part of optomechanical trade studies, with hands-on experience in Ansys, Nastran, or related simulation tools considered an asset.

  • Select components, materials, and manufacturing processes that ensure robust, reliable, and thermally stable mounting of precision optics in extreme operating environments.

  • Develop procedures for optical alignment, system assembly, and systematic verification testing at both subsystem and system levels.

  • Manage vendor relationships and coordinate the fabrication, procurement, and quality inspection of optomechanical components.

  • Engage in prototyping, integration, and iterative testing to refine designs, troubleshoot issues, and validate optical and mechanical performance before commissioning and flight/deployment.

  • Prepare and maintain technical reports, interface control documents, assembly/test procedures, and comprehensive design specifications.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • 1-15 years’ experience in optomechanical design for high-precision instrumentation, including telescopes, laser systems, or scientific cameras. Experience in both space-mission and ground-instrument contexts is highly desirable.(role will be assigned according to experience)

  • Strong proficiency in mechanical design principles, structural mechanics, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).

  • Demonstrated experience in classical mechanics calculations (free-body diagrams, hand calculations, etc.).

  • Experience with industry-standard FEA software for static structural analysis (e.g., Ansys, Nastran, NX Femap).

  • Working knowledge of thermal management and its impact on optical performance (a strong advantage).

  • Familiarity with metrology/alignment techniques and best practices for optical assemblies.

  • Excellent documentation, report writing, and design review skills.

Preferred Qualities:
  • Hands-on experience generating precise manufacturing drawings and release documentation.

  • Knowledge of machining processes, advanced materials (e.g., composites, low CTE alloys), and space-qualified components.

  • Familiarity with optical system performance metrics and integration/testing under laboratory and operational conditions.

  • Good knowledge of quality control, inspection methods, and technical supplier evaluation.

General Requirements:
  • Ability to work in a mission-focused, operational environment.

  • Ability to think critically and make independent decisions.

  • Interpersonal skills to enable working in a diverse and dynamic team.

  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.

  • Writing and delivering technical documents and briefings.

  • Verbal and written communication skills, as well as organizational skills.

  • Travel occasionally as necessary.
