As part of the Optical and Thermals Systems team at Formlabs, you will help contribute to the design of our optical systems, think at the system level, work with suppliers, manage prototype builds, develop calibration strategies, and coordinate with the larger product development team to integrate your solutions into the overall product. The ideal candidate is a hardware-focused generalist who can learn quickly, be guided by first principles thinking, and understand and apply concepts from numerous subjects and disciplines.

The Job:
- Collaborate on the design full optical systems for future Formlabs products
- Participate on the development novel calibration and manufacturing schemes
- Analyze feature-performance tradeoffs and implications to the overall system design
- Work cross-functionally to ensure the successful integration of the system
- Partner with sourcing to identify and manage key suppliers for optical components
You:
- Have a broad understanding of engineering fundamentals in Optics, Physics, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering
- Can transform a vague concept into a testable piece of hardware
- Think outside the box and come up with novel solutions to challenging problems
- Are an expert communicator who can articulate technical information verbally and on paper concisely
- Are a self-driven go-getter - you resonate with your work and bring passion to the office every day
- Can write code (e.g., Python, MATLAB, C/C++, etc.) for instrument control and data analysis
Bonus Skills:
- Optical simulation experience (e.g., Zemax, LightTools, CODE V)
- CAD software ( e.g., SolidWorks, Onshape)
- Hands-on experience with high-power lasers, illumination, or imaging
