As an optical designer in the Applied Materials Photonics Platform Business, you will be working on highly technical and challenging experimental prototypes, evaluation kits, and reference designs to support advanced near eye display modules.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver optical system designs for customers, development kits, and experimental prototypes.
- Select components, and work with vendors to source them for prototypes.
- Support waveguide teams, metrology teams, mechanical teams, and the rest of the organization with optical engineering, modeling, and prototyping. For example, metrology may require a complex lens design.
Minimum requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent
- Experience in HW development in all design phases of wearable consumer product
- Proven competence in working cross-functionally to deliver cutting edge small form factor based solutions
Preferred Experience
- Strong fundamental experience of optical design of smart glasses, and components for smart glasses (such as ophthalmic lenses and light engines)
- Experience in leading and contributing to technical cross-functional team design discussions
- Hands-on experience in optical design tools such as Zemax
- Hands-on experience in prototype bring-up
- Development of new technology solutions as well as influencing future product roadmaps while interfacing closely with key vendors and suppliers
- 10 years minimum experience in optical design.
