About Our Team

The Washington Post is powered by the passion and talent of our people. It takes all of us to reinvent news. Beyond our award-winning Newsroom and Opinions teams, we work across many departments, including Brand & Events, Communications, Customer Care, Engineering & Product, Finance, Human Resources, Legal, Marketing & Advertising, Print Operations, and Sales.

Why This Role Matters

The Washington Post Opinions section is seeking a social media editor to help run its social media accounts and help our commentary reach new audiences.

As a member of Opinions’ audience strategy team, the editor will collaborate across the section and organization to elevate our opinion journalism. They should be familiar with social media management platforms such as Sprout Social and understand how to draw insights from social analytics.

The editor should feel comfortable promoting a variety of content types on social media, including columns, video, video podcasts and visual stories. They will help develop strategies for our expanding multimedia offerings and franchises designed for an off-platform audience. They should also understand how to build around personalities and voices to create a lively, engaging feed.

The editor will be an ambassador for new tools to execute and elevate our opinion journalism. They will work closely with journalists to hone their voice and approach to social media and should consistently be on the lookout for ways to innovate with our products and presentation.

  • Curate and edit clear, eye-catching carousels and social cards for Instagram, TikTok and other social platforms that are optimized for shareability

  • Work with multimedia team to help develop social media strategies around new initiatives and franchises, including video podcasts
