Job Description:

Indorama Intermediate Chemicals is currently looking for a dynamic individual to work as an Operator located at our Westlake, LA location. As an Operator, you will adhere to all established operational and EH&S policies, procedures, and practices; performs all tasks necessary to ensure the safe and productive operations of assigned process units. Operators make required rounds to ensure proper equipment operation and to perform required rounds/inspections. Ensure unit is operating at target rates and production is on-spec. Monitor operating equipment and ensure it is operating within desired ranges. Handles maintenance items in assigned area including safing of equipment. Troubleshoots to identify problem areas with the unit and communicates suggestions to unit supervision, engineering, or other appropriate associates.

What will be expected from you?

  • Performs necessary work in operating, controlling, adjusting, and regulating temperatures, pressures, levels, flow, and other operating variables to produce quality and on-spec products.
  • Maintains current, detailed knowledge and understanding of process unit equipment, unit operations and operating methods.
  • Makes periodic rounds of units, checking and/or adjusting process equipment to ensure proper operation, draws product samples for laboratory analysis and based on laboratory analysis makes necessary changes in operating conditions.
  • As necessary, operates the instrument control board DCS or PLC systems or works outside on the units.
  • May direct the work and train others assigned to the job and cooperates and assists others in the performance of duties assigned.
  • Completes reports and records data such as SPC charts, operating data, Work Orders, and Safe Work Permits, using prescribed forms.
  • Maintains good housekeeping habits to ensure the cleanliness, neatness, and order of work area and equipment.
  • Participate in shift handover and other key operator communications meetings.
  • Essential functions require presence in the workplace on a regular basis and an ability to work extra hours if needed. If applicable, ability to work overtime may be needed to ensure required staffing capacity to meet daily production objectives. Work collaboratively with team members with different backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Assists other employees in accomplishments of Indorama company goals. Follows instructions and performs other duties as may be assigned by supervisor. Participates in Environmental, Health, & Safety initiatives as set forth by the company. Participates in and completes company-required training programs.

What are we looking for in the ideal candidate?

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required and an Associate’s Degree in Process Technology preferred.
  • 5+ years of chemical plant experience may be substituted in lieu of degree. Will also consider applicants with related Military experience, Associate’ or Bachelor’s Degree in related industrial field.
  • Must meet Fire Brigade physical requirements for jobs that require Fire Brigade participation including the ability to wear a respirator and carry up to 50 pounds of equipment.
  • Must be able to climb and work at elevated heights.
  • Must be willing and able to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule and work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must have a level of proficiency with Internet, Email and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Communicates tactfully and effectively both verbally and in writing and maintains effective work relations with those encountered during the course of employment.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to new instructions and/or dynamic organizational priorities is critical for job success.
