The Opportunity
We are seeking an Operator A who will operate and maintain the Chantilly Compressor Station while also maintaining and calibrating its various automated control systems to effect continuous efficient and safe operations.
This individual must be a self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision, who possesses strong analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.
This position is represented by the United Steelworkers Local 573 and the filling of the position is subject to the terms and conditions of the governing collective bargaining agreement.
The successful candidate will reside within 30 miles or 45 minutes of the Chantilly Compressor Station in order to comply with emergency response requirements.
What you’ll do
- Assure the orderly and efficient operation of the compressor engines, associated auxiliary equipment, and their automation systems by performing such duties as: maintaining and inspecting controls, measurement, and control instrumentation, including mechanical, pneumatic, electronic, and hydraulic devices used in the station’s automatic control systems that direct and safeguard the operation of the engines performance, start and stop sequencing, and the final control of the gas entering and leaving the station
- Keep engines indicated and balanced
- Regulate oil distribution to engines
- Observe gas pressures entering and leaving station
- Make emergency repairs to equipment
- Perform routine preventative maintenance that is necessary to keep station operating efficiently
- Troubleshoot and repair units, generator, boiler, coolers, air compressors
- Maintain and keep operating records
- Coordinate and schedule overhauling of main units
- Maintain stations stock parts and operating supplies
- Keep structure and grounds in recommended conditions
- Interpret charts, meters, gauges, and other types of instruments used in controlling plants operation
- Check and calibrate instruments of importance to the station’s operation
- Grease ball, plug and gate valves
- Assist with compilation of station’s operating budget and various annual operating reports
- Perform check on all devices that safeguard engines and other station equipment
- Originate work order requests
- Perform tests and inspections as required by the Manual of Approved Procedures
- Coordinate with gas control in operation of facility, consistent with needs and efficiency
- Assist in planning of work and participate as necessary in safety and/or team meetings and discussion.
- Complete work orders, enter data into the work management system, create new work orders, etc. in SAP
- Other tasks as required

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic mathematical and computer skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical training or experience in the operation of natural gas pipeline systems
- Knowledge and experience in the use of hand tools and precision measuring instruments
- Industrial experience in a plant environment
This position requires candidates to
- Successfully qualify for specific job tasks per DOT and Company operator qualification requirements
- Have and maintain a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record
- Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, to include drug and alcohol testing
- Be subject to call out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and work extended days and/or weeks for emergency response purposes
- Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings, or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home
- Be subject to working conditions which include adverse weather and temperatures
- Pass respiratory fit test and use equipment such as SCBA and other respirators
