The Aerospace Corporation’s Systems Formulation & Implementation Directorate (SF&I) provides a broad range of systems engineering services to NASA which includes subject matter expertise across all engineering disciplines, performs technical assessments and independent reviews, provides mission assurance support, provides acquisition support, and related technical services.
NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center at Edwards Air Force Base in California supports the agency by advancing flight research and safety. The Program Directorate, Code 300, leads and manages AFRC’s project and sub-project activities to advance technology and science through flight. The mission of the Flight Opportunities Program, managed within this Directorate, is to rapidly demonstrate promising technologies for space exploration, discovery, and the expansion of space commerce through suborbital testing with industry flight providers.
What You'll Be Doing
- Assist NASA in developing Statements of Work, Evaluation Plans, Acquisition Strategy, and other documents for Flight Opportunities Program’s contracts.
- Support NASA’s management of Tipping Point contracts and Announcement of Collaborative Opportunity (ACO) Space Act Agreements for Flight Opportunities, which involves regular communication with the various technical leads and contract managers.
- Instruct Aerospace and/or NASA staff on principles, processes, and best practices for suborbital flights of rockets, high-altitude balloons, and parabolic aircraft, the latter flown to produce microgravity test environments.
- Mentor and coach Aerospace and/or NASA AFRC staff serving in or supporting Flight Opportunities roles
What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in engineering, science, or equivalent
- 12 or more years of progressively responsible professional experience in one or more of the following areas
- Suborbital Flight Systems
- University, Industry, and NASA experiments aboard Suborbital Flight Systems
- Ground Systems for Suborbital Flight Operations, Data Processing and Distribution
- Thorough knowledge of NASA Systems Engineering principles and processes, including those specific to NASA AFRC
- Experience in Mission Systems Engineering roles at NASA AFRC
- Experience in interacting with NASA Project Managers to identify and resolve engineering issues to their satisfaction
- Experience in NASA acquisition processes
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
