GRAIL is seeking a Senior Director, National Field MSL to lead the field-based MSL organization. This role will oversee, lead, and evolve the MSL organization, provide leadership and strategic direction to the MSL team to ensure adaptation and execution of the relevant Medical Affairs and organizational plans, and will be an effective internal partner to Medical Affairs and other internal departments. This role will report to the Vice President of Medical Affairs, and will be a part of the Medical Affairs Leadership Team.
You will:
- .Lead and evolve, in response to company direction and growth, the field-based MSL organization, including establishing and iterating on standard operating procedures and best practices
- Represent the Field Medical Team as part of the Medical Affairs Leadership Team
- Ensure scientific, medical/clinical, and operational excellence of field based medical team through hiring, training, coaching, and mentoring
- Build and maintain effective strategic relationships and influence across Medical Affairs Leadership Team and other relevant global and regional stakeholders (eg, regulatory and compliance) to effectively collaborate on the development and evolution of processes to increase effectiveness in the strategic and operational needs within Field Medical
- Interface closely with the Medical Affairs trainer to ensure robust MSL training and certification/recertification processes are in place
- Translate medical strategic priorities into clear field medical goals, objectives, and initiatives with clear, defined, time-bound KPIs and metrics that demonstrate value for the medical organization
- Contribute to thought leader identification activities, and participate in/lead the development and implementation of thought leader engagement plans aligned with the overall medical strategy and in collaboration with our Thought Leader Liaison
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Medical Directors, Medical Information, and Publications teams to develop field medical materials, including but not limited to slides and FAQs
- Ensure all materials and activities reflect the highest standard of quality (eg, materials are accurately referenced, correctly interpreted, and communicated appropriately)
- Develop and maintain relationships with thought leaders, other external experts, and principal investigatorsRepresent GRAIL at global forums, conferences, and/or professional associations as appropriate
- Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments, including Research and Development/Bioinformatics and Data Science, Clinical Development, Market Access, and Commercial, as well as collaborate closely with our growing UK team to ensure alignment
- Oversee the support of clinical trial-related activities as needed, including activities related to patient identification, recruitment, and/or investigator education
- Lead scientific congress intelligence gathering activitiesLead collection of and responses to insights collected from the field team
- Participate in medical/scientific advisory boards
- Oversee the collection and exchange of scientific information important to GRAIL’s development efforts
- Continuously reassess and adjust resource needs, and oversee the field medical budgetMaintain clinical and technical expertise in the therapeutic area through review of the scientific/medical literature and attendance at scientific meetings
- Collaborate with in-office teams (eg, publications, operations, training, internal events)
Your Background Will Include:
- An advanced scientific or clinical degree (eg, PhD, Pharm.D, MD)
- At least 10 years experience in Medical Affairs in the healthcare industry, including at least 5 years managing/leading a regional or national Field Medical team; diagnostics experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrated leadership and driving results in support of company objectives, in accord with GRAIL’s culture and values, for example: respect, accountability, leadership, innovation, and collaboration
- Strong leadership skills, demonstrated ability to lead and evolve field-based medical teams
- Ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with thought leaders and to establish trust through the consistent demonstration of scientific and clinical expertise, and satisfactory follow-through on requests from thought leaders
- Excellent communicator, skilled at diplomacy and capable of effectively combining science and relationship building
- Experience with clinical research, early-stage products, and diagnostics a plus
- Ability to manage timelines and multiple priorities under time constraints
- Aptitude to develop technical expertise in new therapeutic area(s)Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional environmentField-based position with regular in-office cadence to be determined in collaboration with your manager
- Up to 60% travel required
