General Summary:
The Pipeline TD collaborates with artists and engineers in the design, development, and support of in-house software tools for facial modeling, rigging, animation, and 3D printing.

Job Function:

  • Support artist workflows including modeling, rigging and animation of complex puppet parts in a Maya-based CG environment, followed by 3D printing and assembly of parts for large-scale stop motion animation production.
  • Work with modeling, rigging and animation artists, supervisors and engineers to design, develop, and maintain cg production pipeline tools to improve workflow efficiencies and capabilities
  • Architect and develop new tools for stop motion specific workflows, such as managing physical parts inventories and layout, 3D print color management, and quality control.
  • Extend and integrate artist tools in a Shotgrid-based asset management framework.
  • Collaborate with other engineers in Production Technology to ensure consistency and reuse of tooling and techniques across different departments where possible.
  • Engage in testing, documentation, training and artist support for relevant tools.
  • Support users on Linux, OSX, and Windows.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience as a TD in the VFX or Feature Animation Industry.
  • Strong grasp of Computer Science fundamentals.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Expertise in Python, the standard library, and the Maya python APIs.
  • Experience with Pyside/PyQt, and the Shotgrid APIs desired.
  • Experience with mechanical design and assembly, rapid prototyping, Zcorp &Object printers a plus
  • Experience with C++, fullstack a plus.
  • Experience with stop motion animation a plus.

  • Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee works under typical office conditions and is exposed to variable indoor temperatures. The noise level will range from quiet to loud in various shops.
