DESCRIPTION

Engineer - Georgia Transmission Control Center

Reports to: Transmission Control Center Manager

Insider Threat Program Applies: Position will have access and control over sensitive systems and falls under the company's Insider Threat Program. Enhanced screening including background, drug screen, and psychological assessment is required if you are selected.

Candidate must live within a commutable distance of the Lithia Springs area of Metro Atlanta or be willing to relocate. Relocation assistance will be considered.

This position will be filled at exempt level 3E to 6E depending on the knowledge, skills, and experience of the successful candidate.

J OB SUMMARY

The Operations Engineer role helps ensure the Safe and reliable operation of the power system for customers throughout Georgia by managing the integrity of operating data at the Georgia Transmission Control Center (TCC). The Operations Engineer will join a highly skilled team of engineers and Transmission Operators who monitor and control the power system on a 24/7 basis. Responsibilities include ensuring facility ratings, system topologies, operating procedures, and other operating data are accurately implemented to support approximately $1B in annual capital improvements on the Georgia Integrated Transmission System (ITS) and neighboring systems. In addition, the Operations Engineer will identify process improvements and automation investments to enhance data quality and will provide daily technical assistance to the TCC Operators related to facility ratings and other technical questions.

The successful candidate will gain extensive knowledge of Transmission System Operations and will build strong working relationships throughout Power Delivery, with other cross- functional areas, and with external stakeholders. The successful candidate will also have opportunities to train and develop subject matter and leadership expertise in many areas of System Operations including Operations Planning, Solar Integration, NERC Compliance, Real- time Operations, Engineer Switching, Floor Support, and others.

J OB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage system changes related to all construction projects and ensure compliance with NERC Reliability Standards FAC-008 and PRC-023 within the TCC including SERC audit support.
  • Lead and coordinate the facility rating process including providing training to outside departments.
  • Provide technical assistance to the Transmission Operators related to facility ratings and other areas.
  • Engage daily with field personnel (GPC and ITS participants), SCS Design, Operations Support, and Transmission Support to related to system changes and operational data needs.
  • Maintain Enterprise Asset Management system (STOMP) facilities, busses, and power trees to provide accurate reliability reporting (SAIDI/SAIFI)).
  • Manage ITS Operating Number assignments in support of transmission projects. Foster innovation in refining and automating operating data and compliance processes.

J OB QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, electrical is preferred Candidates without an engineering degree who have significant experience in Power Delivery Operations and/or an associate technology degree may also be considered.
  • Experience in Power or Transmission is a plus
  • NERC Certification or Professional Engineer License is a plus

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Experienced candidates will have Subject Matter Expertise in Power System Operations and/or Transmission design, construction, maintenance, planning, or other power delivery disciplines.
  • Entry level candidates must have the ability to develop Subject Matter Expertise in Power System Operations and Transmission.
