EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

VOLUNTEERS ASSISTING SENIORS

A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION

The mission of Volunteers Assisting Seniors (VAS) is to empower seniors with the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions about their senior benefits. The Executive Director is responsible for leading the organization in meeting its short and long-term growth strategies including being the public face of the organization.

The organization is the gateway organization in the community for older adults seeking unbiased, free assistance interpreting retirement choices to proactively manage their future.

The Executive Director must be a self-starter and a passionate advocate dedicated to serving others and fulfilling the mission and vision of the organization.

LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT DUTIES:

  • Actively engage and energize staff, volunteers, board members, partnering organizations, and funders.
  • Direct recruitment, training and utilization of volunteers.
  • Serve as spokesperson in the community and develop public information strategies to educate community groups.
  • Liaison with State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) of Nebraska.
  • Recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals, adhering to the mission and vision of the organization.
  • Develop and manage an organizational budget. Administer disbursement of funds in accordance with that budget.
  • Oversee effective, data driven systems to track progress, and regularly evaluate program components, so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, volunteers and other constituents.
  • Develop and maintain a competent staff. Create job descriptions, select, train, and manage staff and ensure effective day-to-day operations of the organization.


FUNDRAISING & COMMUNICATIONS:

  • Develop and pursue fundraising strategies. Identify and cultivate new and existing relationships with foundations, corporations, and individuals who may provide funding and volunteer support.
  • Apply grant writing skills including creativity, practical thinking, research, organizational skills to meet timeline requirements, and written and verbal communication skills to prepare and present grant applications to current and prospective donors and foundations.
  • Administer all contracts and grant funding agreements. Ensure all requirements are met and reports provided.
  • Deepen and refine all aspects of communications, from web presence to external relations, with the goal of expanding the brand recognition of the organization.
  • Report, as necessary, information to the President and Board including changes, needs, and issues which involve the development of programs, finances, fund raising, staff, policies, and public relations.


PLANNING & NEW SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES:

Identify and develop new opportunities for the organization to provide services to the community consistent with the mission and vision of VAS.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in Business, Social Science, Education, Public Administration or related field.
  • Three years or more professional/management experience.
  • Two years or more nonprofit fund-raising experience.
  • One year or more volunteer recruitment and management experience.
  • Proven ability to facilitate and manage data-driven program evaluation and multidisciplinary projects.
  • Strong written, verbal, and IT communication skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people.
  • Experience with common personal computing software including Office 365, Excel, Word, Power Point, etc. as well as social media applications.
  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning. Ability to lead organization beyond what it is today to what it can be tomorrow.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the VAS Board of Directors.
