Block Renovation Director Retail Strategy & Operations

Role and Responsibilities

We’re looking for a Director of Retail Strategy and Operations to build and manage a newly formed retail strategy in partnership with our growth organization. In this role, you will be expected to manage and execute the build out, launch and operations of our first retail space in New York City. You will work in partnership with sales and marketing leadership in developing sales strategies and performance goals, research and work with vendors, order inventory, maintain detailed records for analysis, and evaluate performance. We’re excited to see how a working showroom can impact Block’s marketing and sales strategies in years to come.

Example responsibilities (near term):

  • Execution: 
    • Oversee the build out of our first retail space from start to opening using growth and profitability metrics to guide your decision making. 
    • Work cross-functionally with our Creative, Marketing, Sales, Design, Operations, Supply Chain, Product, Engineering, Finance and Analytics teams to drive growth.
    • Accountable for the design, buying, planning, and production of all Block retail, ensuring that the right, in-catalog products are in the space for the team to utilize in client interactions
    • Institute an approval process for seasonal buys and implement trainings for internal sales teams (change-management) 
    • Work in partnership with internal teams on how to optimize window displays, educational displays and the touch screen experience
  • Strategy:
    • You will not just have the vision, but develop the plans to bring your strategy to life. Create a consumer-first experiential showroom where homeowners can get an understanding of Block’s consultative approach to planning a renovation. 
    • Have a deep understanding of Block’s digital experience and ensure the showroom works in tandem with that prioritizing a product-led customer journey. 
    • Own the P&L for this initiative and optimize for the most effective and efficient strategies utilizing data to inform your decision making.
    • Have a strong understanding of retail and showroom tactics that can be implemented on day one with trackable success metrics. 
    • Lead with an innovative mind, testing and iterating on sales tactics in store while generating insights from sales based on feedback from studios and sales analytics
  • Operations:
    • Once launched, manage the day to day of the retail space and ensure inventory is in stock and 
    • Manage the retail strategy and operations team, setting clear goals and motivating strong performance.
    • Work cross-functionally with our Creative, Marketing, Sales, Operations, Supply Chain, Product, Engineering, Finance and Analytics teams to drive growth.
    • Create and present monthly reports to present insights to Management Team to assess performance of retail business

Qualifications

  • Loves solving problems and can translate high-level goals into executional plans.
  • Highly ambitious, organized and goal-oriented.
  • 10+ years of experience with large scale project management with a minimum of 5+ years executing on retail strategies as a store or regional manager or retail purchaser with demonstrated ability to own a P&L.
  • You have an ability to build strong relationships at all levels across a variety of responsibilities to achieve common goals.
  • You have experience leading projects, hitting goals, and succeeding in a team environment.
  • You are willing to take an idea from inception to long term success – this role has exponential growth depending on the success of the space and the individual.
