Position Overview:
As the leader of Gopuff's Food Safety Program, the Director of Food Safety will report to the Director of Global Environment, Health, Safety and Security (EHSS). You will provide functional strategic direction to GoPuff Operation, Supply Chain and Product teams, and important suppliers and partners. We're looking for a passionate and experienced food safety and quality assurance leader who will build and sustain a world-class, customer-focused Food Safety program across Gopuff's business portfolio. The food safety program will exceed regulatory and functional food safety standards across the areas in which we operate.
You will have deep experience in food safety and will have a customer-focus, and growth-mindset along with collaboration skills required to work across departments.
Specific Responsibilities:
The Director of Food Safety will develop and implement food safety policies, standards and key performance
indicators across the company to grow performance. You will also guide compliance across operations, identify trends in food safety metrics, and develop corrective action across the company.
You Will:

    • Establish a clear vision and set the strategy for food safety as part of the Environment, Health, Safety and Security (EHS&S) program across the company.
    • Collaborate with appropriate partners to establish the strategy and goals for food safety that aligns with our overall strategy.
    • Provide technical support and strategic advice and recommendations to leadership and other relevant partners to ensure all food safety risks are well understood and controlled.
    • Build clear compliance expectations and a world-class implementation road map, validation audit process and tracking tools to guarantee a robust food safety and quality culture.
    • Implement risk-based and science-based food safety policies, standards and programs to support our business portfolio and ensure compliance with local, national, and global regulatory food safety requirements .
    • Develop and monitor execution of standard operating procedures relating to food safety.
    • Work with supply chain and operations to develop food safety processes to promote quality, including product inspection and release protocol, inventory control / FIFO, traceability, logistics and customer delivery process that protects our external quality and food safety through the end customer.
    • Identify best practices and ensure sharing across the organization through leadership and communication.
    • Identify and improve performance of main quality and food safety metrics by working collaboratively with operations and supply chain teams.
    • Identify and drive continuous improvement process enhancement in food safety across the network.
    • Maintain and use data to help guide and positively influence strategy, reporting, analysis, and early risk identification across operations.
    • Oversight, execution and advancement of our product recall process and traceability programs.
    • Be the Recall / Crisis Team Lead on issues related to food product recalls.
    • Coordinate and respond to inquiries from Federal, State and local agencies related to food safety issues or concerns.
    • Use data to help guide strategy, reporting and continuous improvement programs to ensure compliance and advance performance.
    • Promote and help foster a food safety culture for the company.
    • Oversee and develop food safety audit protocols at both the first-party and second-party levels to enforce policies and standards across the company and its suppliers.
    • Develop corrective action plans and ensure operational implementation to prevent recurrence of food safety incidents.
    • Prepare and file the appropriate documentation to support all compliance programs overseen by this position.
    • As a subject matter expert, provide content for food safety training, including knowledge checks for kwt elements of our food safety program.
    • Monitor latest food safety issues and regulatory trends and determine impact on our program.
    • Other responsibilities as determined for the role.


You Have:

    • Master's degree or equivalent in related field - Biology, Microbiology, Food Science, Food Safety,
    • Engineering
    • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in managing and building food safety and quality assurance programs in a large company and across a global platform of locations, with 5 + years at a senior-level position.
    • In-depth working knowledge of food science and safety, regulatory requirements, pest management, and sanitation.
    • Knowledge of FDA and USDA regulations required.
    • Leadership experience across a variety of sites and multi-departments.
    • Demonstrated experience building, leading, and managing teams and results in establishing strategic goals and metrics for measuring success.
    • Experience and capabilities to develop and prioritize data across an organization.
    • Considerable operating experience with a history of distinguished performance.
    • Track record in delivering benchmark performance and advancing performance through strategy development
    • Travel between 30-50%
