Job Description

Brightspeed is looking for an experienced Construction Technician to join our team! As a Construction Technician you will be responsible for the installation, splicing, and testing of all fiber optic and copper cable within multiple program networks. 

As a Construction Technician you will occasionally be required to work overtime, and you will be required to travel throughout your territory. 

As a Construction Technician your responsibilities will include: 

  • Installing, splicing, and testing fiber as directed for Projects, Operations, & Maintenance related activities and responding to emergency events
  • Dark fiber, and reel testing
  • Performing routine repairs of existing fiber to aggregation point, providing continuity for entire fiber route
  • Performing maintenance on existing cables, including evaluation, testing, and repairing old or malfunctioning cables 
  • Cutting and splicing fiber optic cables, locating problem areas and performing other repairs as needed

Qualifications

WHAT IT TAKES TO CATCH OUR EYE

  •  Extensive working knowledge of hand and power tools fiber optic test and installation equipment 
  • Experience dealing with multiple agencies and personnel to assist with installation and permitting processes 
  • Strong people skills 
  • Good penmanship, drafting and verbal skills 
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions 
  • Ability to stand all day and walk several miles to engineer cable routes in remote locations or follow construction equipment and crews while filling in for an inspector
  • Ability to work on drawings and spreadsheets for extended periods 


BONUS POINTS FOR: 
• Associate degree in Engineering, Electronics, Software, or Networks; or a related technical or vocational education 
• 2+ years applicable work experience

This position is part of a bargaining unit and represented by a union. Depending upon the applicable collective bargaining agreement under which you may be hired, you may be: (a) required to join the union and pay union dues as a condition of employment; or, (b) required to pay union dues, but not join the union as a condition of employment; or (c) free to choose whether to join the union, but if you do join the union you would be obligated to pay union dues.
