Job Purpose:
This position is part of Caterpillars Network Global WAN team supporting over hundreds of facilities around the world. Your primary role will span between production support and as well as an implementer for new WAN connectivity for Caterpillar facilities, suppliers, dealers, and various cloud providers. This is a great opportunity to work on various WAN technologies, including traditional Cisco IOS based routers, Silver Peak SDWAN Unity Edge Connect routers, as well as Cisco/Silver Peak Cloud based solutions.
Job Duties:
This position is part of the Global WAN Support team for Caterpillar. You will be part of global team that supports the WAN connectivity across the globe. In this role you will be part of the global support team working production incidents. In addition to this, you will also be one of the primary implementers for new connections for new Caterpillar facilities, Caterpillar dealer, supplier, and business partners.
- Performs all duties without close supervision. However, more complex assignments may require closer supervision and assistance from senior staff.
- Works directly on technical problem identification and resolution, including participating in off-shift and weekend support functions.
- Works independently on complex projects that may span multiple infrastructure components.
- Under the direction of more senior staff, assists in the design and implementation WAN configuration and changes to support the business.
- Works with telecommunication vendors on the implementation of new circuits for existing and new facilities.
- Works with cloud providers and internal cloud support team to design and implement new cloud connections.
- Knowledge of router configuration for Cisco IOS and/or Silver Peak SDWAN devices, including troubleshooting and analysis techniques for working production issues.
- Cisco WAN/Silver Peak SDWAN configuration, and implementation support for sites and datacenters
- Cisco WAN/Silver Peak SDWAN site and datacenter circuit troubleshooting
- Cisco WAN/Silver Peak SDWAN circuit and bandwidth test and turn up
- Cisco WAN/Silver Peak SDWAN Design as needed
- Support for WAN team incidents, requests, and changes, including off-shift support
- Security, monitoring and log management
- QOS, underlay, overlay and egress management
Silver Peak edge device software upgrade and orchestrator code / OS upgrade support
Cisco IOS software upgrade and IOS configuration support
Basic Qualifications:
- Currently attending a 4-year accredited university/college or have completed a minimum Bachelor's degree in an IT degree related program or sequence
- Requires a relevant degree, technical certification or equivalent experience supporting Network WAN technologies.
- Minimum cumulative GPA requirement 2.8 (no rounding)
- Graduation date between May 2021 through May 2022
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
- Experience working with Cisco WAN technologies and or relevant certifications in the WAN space.
- Experience working with Silver Peak SDWAN hardware and software configuration.
- Experience working with Telecommunications vendors for installing and configuring new WAN connections.
- Experience setting up DMVPN, VPN connections on Cisco routers.
- Experience working with Cisco/Silver Peak cloud-based solutions.
- Proficiency in Python scripting.
