Job Description

The geography that this position covers is Missouri and Iowa.

The AGRIntelligence (AI) Area Agronomist provides training to area Sales Representatives to help them develop value added opportunities for their customers. This position also manages research for developing new markets for proprietary products and basic manufacturer's products.

Helena's trademarked "AGRIntelligence" business, often referred to as "AI" internally, was developed by Helena over 20 years ago to focus exclusively on creating new and innovative technologies to analyze each specific field to help guide our growers critical decisions and prevent potential problems in an effort to help make them more successful year after year.

The employee's primary duty must be the performance of office or non-manual work directly related to the management or general business operations of Helena or Helena's customers. This also includes the exercise of discretion and independent judgement with respect to matters of significance.

What your day may look like

  • Works with Sales Representatives based upon the direction from the AI Business Unit Agronomist and/or AI Division Agronomist to develop sound agronomic fertility programs.
  • Plans and presents at agronomic meetings for sales locations and customers.
  • Maintains current information resources by attending agronomic seminars and develops a network of university and industry contacts.
  • Assists Branch Managers based upon the direction from the AI Business Unit Agronomist and AI Division Agronomist in developing new sales skills in fertility practices.
  • Works with AI team to promote and support AI products and services.
  • Gains knowledge of Helena's yield analysis tools and geographic information system (GIS) applications used to deliver AI programs and services.
  • Trains branch location on agronomy practices and services along with AI products and services.
  • Promotes AI as a tool to market and position other Helena products and services.
  • Assists in setting up research and demonstration plots to promote AI products.
  • Keeps up with advancements in the precision agriculture information management industry including field testing new tools and technology.
  • Works with other AI Division and/or AI Agronomists across the business unit to develop training materials.
  • Integrates AI, agronomy, Helena Products Group (HPG) and seed into sales programs.
  • Works with other AI team members to develop resources for agronomic training and supplier contacts.
  • Other work-related duties as assigned by leader.
  • Reliable and regular attendance is expected.

Education and experience needed for this position

  • Bachelor's degree in an agricultural science field is required.
  • Five years of experience in sales or agronomic consulting is required.
  • Certification as a Certified Crop Advisor (or working toward certification) is required.

Other skills that will help you succeed

  • Excellent working knowledge in the sampling methods used in AI for soil and tissue sampling practices.
  • Expertise using precision data collection tools and software.
  • 4R Certification (based on territory) is preferred.
  • Pest Control Advisor license is preferred. If this position is located in California, it is required.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and a team player.
  • Agronomic background or discipline.
  • Good driving record.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% is required.

Your work environment and the physical aspects of the job

The work environment for this position may require the employee to work in an outdoor setting in all types of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements. When working outdoors and possibly around moving equipment/mechanical parts, the employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, chemical and biological hazards, vibrations and a risk of electrical shock. This position requires you to use your hands for many different tasks and to talk, hear, walk, stand and sit. You may be occasionally required to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
