The Role
Zoox is seeking a highly motivated, energetic, Systems Engineer to lead and drive the Operations Systems on the Zoox ride service. Operations are critical to the Zoox product as it provides the rider assistance, teleguidance, mission control, fleet maintenance, and rescue functions of the Zoox ride service. You will be responsible for supporting a diverse group of product managers, software engineers, safety systems engineers, and validation engineers in activities including: design and modeling of Zoox’s operations functions; specification of operations infrastructure; interface definition for adjacent autonomy and robot systems; and performance improvement of human interface software.
SEI (Systems Engineering & Integration) is bringing a systems engineering approach to the Zoox mobility-as-a-service product. We are systems engineers working directly with other supporting ecosystem teams to develop and mature architectures, validations, tools, and processes inspired by systems engineering best practices.
In this role, you will:
- Author ConOps, OpsCon, Ops System Requirements, and Infrastructure Specifications.
- Use Model-Based Systems Engineering tools to model operations systems and activities.
- Build complex multisystem plans which enable Zoox ride service to expand to new markets, use cases, and conditions. This involves working with leadership from product, program, engineering, facilities, and finance.
- Work with human factors research and operations teams to perform trade studies and gap analysis of operational procedures and system capabilities to ensure the Zoox ride service provides a seamless customer experience.
- Work with systems test, product integration, and product validation engineers to ensure full test exercise coverage is defined and executed for operations releases.
- Support debug and performance improvement of existing operations functions. Create new diagnostics, monitors, or watchdogs to improve reliability.
Qualifications
- 7 YOE
- MBSE experience (e.g. Cameo, MagicDraw, IBM Rhapsody, Simulink, SysML).
- Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, standards, or frameworks (INCOSE Handbook, NASA Systems Engineering Handbook, ISO 29148, ISO 15288); hardware development practices (Waterfall); and software development practices (Agile).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced development environment and proactively collaborate cross-functionally with other teams to solve process problems, and demonstrate strong leadership skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be self-motivated, with a desire to continuously improve and learn.
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience in field operations environments (fleet management, manufacturing line, mission operations, ops command).
- Experience in full-stack software, front-end (mobile / web), and backend (cloud compute / distributed storage).
- Familiar with functional safety concepts and evidenced-based testing methodologies (MIL-STD-882, ISO 21448, ISO 26262).
Compensation
There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary range for this position is $191,000 to $261,000. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
