Our WM New Zealand Technical Services Division is a specialist team of highly qualified staff with purpose-built processing facilities and specialised Dangerous Goods transport. Our Technical Services division can process hazardous, medical and liquid waste safely with full compliance to government and council laws and by-laws governing waste disposal of these products.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Transport Supervisor to join our Technical Services team based in Bromley, Christchurch. 

Reporting to the Regional Manager, the focus of this role will be to manage the productivity and safety performance of the transport fleet. 

Other key areas of responsibility are:

  • Leading a team of 10 drivers
  • Coordinating drivers to ensure customer expectations are met. 
  • Regularly reviewing routes. 
  • Liaising with the workshop suppliers on planned maintenance.
  • Communicating with internal stakeholders such as Sales, Despatch and Customer Service to ensure that any issues are identified and solved quickly.

Critical to your success, will be your demonstrated leadership experience in managing people. With high-quality standards and strong time management skills, you will be a safety and transport focused individual who is able to lead, influence and engage others to foster a positive continuous improvement culture.  Working with a variety of people both internally and externally, you will have excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills to build solid, long-term relationships.

It is expected you will be committed to achieving workplace safety to ensure all relevant transport standards, procedures and job instructions are followed and we achieve ‘Zero Harm’ by championing & leading safety meetings on a regular basis.

Must have experience working in a similar leadership role specifically with hazardous and medical waste.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of fatigue management, heavy vehicle, and dangerous goods transport regulations
  • Understanding of environmental protection requirements for regulated waste (desirable)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and dispute resolution skills
  • Strong leadership, supervisory, and organisational abilities
  • Effective negotiation and change management skills
  • Frontline management experience (desirable)
  • Licences & Certifications: Class 4 minimum, Forklift licence; Senior First Aid (desirable)
  • Solid understanding of process safety principles and practices
