Why be an Operations Master Scheduler at Bentley Labs?

The Master Scheduler is responsible for developing, maintaining, and communicating the organization’s long-term production schedule to ensure customer demand, manufacturing capacity, material availability, labor requirements, and operational constraints are effectively balanced.

This position serves as the bridge between Sales, Customer Service, Planning, Purchasing, Warehouse, Compounding, Production, Quality, and Operations, translating customer demand and business priorities into an achievable forward-looking manufacturing plan.

The Master Scheduler focuses primarily on the medium- and long-term planning horizon, identifying capacity constraints, scheduling conflicts, material risks, and resource requirements before they impact execution.

As an Operations Master Scheduler, you will:

  • Develop and maintain the Master Production Schedule (MPS) based on demand, orders, forecasts, inventory needs, and business priorities.
  • Maintain a rolling 8–12+ week production outlook with longer-range visibility where practical.
  • Translate customer demand into achievable production plans based on manufacturing capacity.
  • Assess capacity across production equipment, labor, warehouse space, quality requirements, and material availability.
  • Identify and proactively address capacity constraints, bottlenecks, scheduling conflicts, and resource gaps.
  • Perform capacity-versus-demand analysis and escalate projected shortages or overloads to Operations leadership.
  • Establish and communicate production priorities aligned with customer requirements, material availability, operational efficiency, and business objectives.
  • Coordinate with Purchasing, Planning, and Quality to ensure material availability and account for testing, release timelines, validations, investigations, and other quality constraints.
  • Partner with Operations and Production leadership to optimize manufacturing campaigns, reduce changeovers, and maximize equipment and labor utilization.
  • Assess the impact of new orders, expedited requests, forecast changes, material delays, equipment downtime, and other disruptions on the master schedule.
  • Provide realistic production date commitments and maintain visibility of planned versus actual production performance.
  • Lead regular scheduling and capacity review meetings, communicating significant schedule changes and downstream impacts to stakeholders.
  • Ensure schedule accuracy and the integrity of planning data used for decision-making.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on scheduling, capacity utilization, lead-time reduction, inventory management, and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Develop, maintain, and report scheduling KPIs for Operations leadership.

Long Range – 8+ Weeks
Capacity planning, major customer demand, forecasts, material requirements, resource constraints, and anticipated manufacturing load.

Mid Range – 3–8 Weeks

Near Term – 1–2 Weeks
Transition of the approved master schedule to the short-term scheduling/production team for detailed execution.

The Master Scheduler should generally not manage hourly production activity or routine daily line adjustments unless those changes materially affect the master production plan.
