Our team currently has an opening for an Operations Manager position. The Operations Manager is responsible for leading all site operations at a large chemical distribution facility, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant handling, storage, blending, and distribution of chemical products. This role oversees a team of supervisors, warehouse, production, and maintenance personnel. The Operations Manager will ensure adherence to all company policies, regulatory requirements, and collective bargaining agreements.

The Operations Manager plays a key leadership role in maintaining operational excellence, fostering a culture of safety and accountability, and driving continuous improvement in service, productivity, and cost efficiency.

Job Description

Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) Leadership

  • Champion a strong safety culture by ensuring strict compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, DHS, FRA, ISO, and company QSHE policies.

  • Lead incident investigations and ensure root cause analysis and corrective actions are completed and communicated.

  • Oversee all aspects of chemical handling, storage, and transfer to ensure environmental and safety compliance.

  • Ensure employees receive proper training in chemical handling, PPE usage, hazard communication, and emergency response.

  • Partner with quality and safety teams to implement process safety and risk management programs.

Operational Oversight

  • Manage daily warehouse, production (blending, repackaging), and transportation operations to meet customer delivery expectations.

  • Ensure operational compliance with all regulatory, quality, and documentation standards.

  • Oversee material handling, packaging, and labeling in accordance with product and regulatory requirements.

  • Monitor site productivity and efficiency through KPIs such as on-time delivery, OTIF, throughput, and inventory accuracy.

Leadership & People Management

  • Lead, coach, and develop a diverse workforce including supervisors, unionized hourly employees, and administrative staff.

  • Promote a culture of engagement, accountability, and teamwork built on respect and trust.

  • Administer and enforce policies and procedures consistently in alignment with the collective bargaining agreement.

  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with union leadership and serve as a key contact for labor-related matters.

Labor Relations

  • Maintain proactive communication with union stewards and HR regarding workforce issues, grievances, and negotiations.

  • Support the General Manager and HR in grievance resolutions, arbitrations, and contract discussions as needed.

  • Ensure fair and consistent application of contract provisions, discipline, and work rules.

Financial & Strategic Management

  • Develop, monitor, and manage site operational budgets, including labor, maintenance, utilities, and supplies.

  • Identify and drive cost improvement opportunities without compromising safety or compliance.

  • Participate in site capital planning and support project execution for facility upgrades or process improvements.

  • Partner with Sales and Supply Chain teams to align operational capacity with business growth objectives.

Continuous Improvement

  • Lead process improvement initiatives focused on safety, efficiency, and service quality.

  • Drive standardization and best practices in warehousing, blending, and logistics operations.

  • Encourage employee involvement in identifying and implementing improvement opportunities.

Your Profile Education & Experience 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Chemical Engineering, Supply Chain, or related field or commensurate level of education and work experience.

  • 5+years of progressive operations or plant management experience, ideally in chemical distribution, manufacturing, or logistics.

  • 2+ years of experience manageing in a unionized environment required.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to interface with all levels of management and personnel in a prfoessional manner. This includes outside customers, all levels of regulatory authorities, agency enforcement/inspectors, and auditors.

  • Possess thorough working knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Must be a self-starter and possess the ability to work on multiple prjects simultaneaously.  

  • Must pass pre-employment background, E-Verify, and drug screening.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily on-site role at a chemical distribution facility with warehouse, blending, and transportation operations.

  • Frequent exposure to chemicals, fumes, and warehouse noise—proper PPE required.

  • Must be available for occasional after-hours response to operational or safety incidents.

  • May require periodic travel for training, audits, or corporate meetings.
