The Section Operations Manager role is a key senior site leadership position with overall responsibility for a Manufacturing Business Unit within the Chirk Plant, which is a key plant in our UK Confectionary Cluster.
This a key leadership role and will require coaching and motivation of staff at multiple levels to ensure effective delivery of the daily performance through the alignment of resources (people, plant and process) to meet defined KPIs and Operational targets. He/she identifies continuous improvement and loss elimination opportunities and influences the implementation.
Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will create, own and develop the manufacturing plant area and be responsible for the translation of the Global and Regional KPI's into the activities that provide your framework of operation and improvement for you and your team. Supported by your motivational leadership and relentless desire for everyday great delivery and execution, you drive a team ethic that at its core is passionate for continual improvement.
This role is key in driving the IL6S agenda, throughout the manufacturing plant, and cross functionally, with other key areas of the business. A key element of this is the development of a strong process and continuous improvement culture is expected through building the capabilities of the teams within the section across the whole SQCDSM agenda. You put people at the centre of the operation. You act with integrity at all times and recognize that sustainability is driven through strong leadership aligned to a committed support to the teams and the primary process. You have a transformational mind-set underpinned by a relentless drive to be the best today.
Main Responsibilities
- Be the Safety Leader for the section and be a ccountable for the s ection 's operational and financial performance in line with annual operating plan commitment.
- Deliver according to production plan in line with conversion costs, loss rate and recipes.
- Responsible for production planning and scheduling following the demand requirements S&OP process.
- Responsible for materials management, replenishment of materials and achievement of raw and packaging inventory targets
- Lead the Section team ensur ing appropriate levels of training and development are in place to maintain business critical capability skills whilst developing individuals and teams to support personal growth and section maturity plans.
- Communicate plans and information to section teams, track and challenge progress follow through on all commitments.
- Deliver operational and financial improvements through the consistent challenge of machine and machine standards, work processes and systems. You will identify profit margin enhancing opportunities, develop business benefit scenarios and through effective utilisation of CI processes and disciplines, implement improvement projects.
- Acting as a change agent you will lead the section and influence the site team to develop the operational teams to achieve levels of ability, knowledge and independence that leverages team working and flexibility.
- Through the effective deployment of all IL6S programmes and practices, deliver step change improvements to eliminate losses
Candidate Requirements
- Strong experience in the Food Manufacturing Industry or wider Manufacturing industry.
- Degree level or equivalent education in Manufacturing or Engineering.
- Manufacturing systems (SAP), good PC literacy (MS Office).
- Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, IL6S, TPM experience.
- Strong people management skills, communication skills. Ability to lead and engage employees at all levels
- Drive for results: can be counted on to exceed goals successfully, steadfastly pushes self and others for results.
- Handling complexity, problem solving, analytical and conceptual skills.
- Business acumen, good planning and project management skills.
- Identification of main cost drivers for further productivity potential.
- Provide clear understanding of the requirements for the Continuous Improvement Process.
- Experience of working in a High Performing team work culture, embraces the essence of servant leadership and actively demonstrates a Learn Do Teach approach.
