At Lyft, our purpose is to serve and connect. We aim to achieve this by cultivating a work environment where all team members belong and have the opportunity to thrive.
Lyft Urban Solutions is the operator of six bikeshare systems across the country, including Citi Bike, the New York City region’s bike share system. We’re looking for an Operations Manager who wants to continue the micromobility revolution.
As the Operations Manager, you will own managing the Citi Bike bike fleet – the largest bikeshare fleet in North America – across its New York City and New Jersey service area end to end. You’ll serve as the primary cross-functional subject matter expert for fleet operations, driving performance through our operating partner while also leading people and tackling strategic initiatives. You’ll balance hands-on operational problem solving with the analytical rigor and stakeholder management that a market of this scale demands.
If you share our vision for active transportation that empowers local communities, reduces our environmental footprint, and brings people together, then we’d love to meet you!
Responsibilities:- Own Citi Bike’s bike fleet as a functional area, leading the market’s bike maintenance, rebalancing, battery swap, asset recovery, and special event operations
- Drive performance against targets and ensure that Citi Bike consistently meets service level commitments
- Serve as the primary cross-functional point of contact and subject matter expert for fleet operations, representing the market's needs internally and externally
- Forecast ridership and labor needs, investigate when performance deviates from plan, and escalate issues with appropriate context and proposed solutions
- Build and maintain ad hoc operations models, running scenarios and bounding analysis to inform decision-making and surface risks before they become issues
- Identify operational improvement opportunities proactively and bring them to market leadership with clear reasoning and recommendations
- Lead assigned initiatives (e.g., fleet expansions, hardware upgrades, or new feature rollouts) on schedule and on budget, sharing learnings and best practices across markets
- Communicate strategically with external parties, including the operating partner, city regulators, and commercial stakeholders
- Manage and develop your team, coaching toward individual and team goals and fostering a high-trust, inclusive environment
- Bachelor’s degree with 5-7+ years of relevant work experience in a complex, fast-moving operations, consulting, or start up role
- Excellent organizational skills, task management skills, and attention to detail, with an ability to zoom out and understand the bigger context of your work
- Comfort integrating AI tools (e.g., Claude, Gemini) into daily workflows to accelerate analysis, drafting, and project execution
- Proven track record of analytical problem-solving, including modeling proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Prior people management experience or a clear track record of informal leadership, mentorship, or developing others
- Interest in biking/bikeshare, sustainable transportation, transportation planning, or cities
- Nice to have:
- MBA or other advanced degree
- Experience managing an operating partner or vendor relationship
- SQL skills
- Location & Travel
- Base location: New York City
- Willingness to work from multiple locations across New York City (including warehouses and in the field), and flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends in response to operational needs (e.g., severe weather prep, high-profile events, unanticipated service disruptions)
- Great medical, dental, and vision insurance options with additional programs available when enrolled
- Mental health benefits
- Family building benefits
- Child care and pet benefits
- 401(k) plan with company match to help save for your future
- In addition to 12 observed holidays, salaried team members have discretionary paid time off, hourly team members have 15 days paid time off
- 18 weeks of paid parental leave. Biological, adoptive, and foster parents are all eligible
- Subsidized commuter benefits
- Monthly Lyft credits and complimentary Lyft Pink membership
