The Operations/Depot Supervisor plays a key role in the safe, compliant, and efficient running of a busy environmental services depot supporting tankers, emergency response vehicles, towable plant, and a wide range of specialist equipment. Working closely with the Operations Manager and the current team of Supervisors, this role ensures the depot is operationally ready at all times, stock is well-managed, vehicles are prepared for deployment, and teams are coordinated to deliver high-quality environmental and waste-handling services.
More about the role:
Operational Management
- Manage day-to-day depot operations in collaboration with the Operations Manager and other Supervisors.
- Coordinate tanker and response vehicle movements, including scheduling, pre-deployment checks, and return-to-base processes.
- Oversee the maintenance, storage, and allocation of towable equipment (bowsers, pumps, jetting units, trailers).
- Maintain accurate stock levels of consumables, spill response materials, PPE, hoses, fittings, and specialist environmental equipment.
- Ensure all waste handling, transfer, and storage activities comply with environmental regulations and company procedures.
- Keep the depot organised, safe, and fully operational, including yard layout, equipment storage, and vehicle parking.
Emergency & Incident Support
- Support the Operations Manager and response Supervisors in mobilising vehicles and equipment during environmental incidents.
- Ensure rapid turnaround of vehicles and kit after emergency deployments.
- Act as an operational point of contact during out-of-hours or high-priority events. (This is on a 1 in 4 week on call rota)
Process & Performance Improvement
- Work with the Operations Manager to identify operational inefficiencies and implement improvements in stock control, equipment readiness, and fleet utilisation.
- Monitor KPIs such as vehicle turnaround times, stock accuracy, equipment availability, and response performance.
- Support the introduction of new systems, technology, and operational processes.
Customer & Stakeholder Coordination
- Liaise with planners, on site operations managers for projects and clients to ensure operational requirements are met.
- Provide accurate updates on equipment availability, job readiness, and depot capacity.
- Resolve operational issues quickly to maintain service quality and client satisfaction.
- Ensure all towable equipment and specialist kit is cleaned, serviced, stored correctly, and ready for deployment.
About you:
- Experience in waste management, environmental services, industrial cleaning, utilities, or a similar operational environment.
- Strong understanding of tanker operations, fleet logistics, or emergency response workflows.

- ADR awareness or experience working with ADR vehicles is advantageous, but full training can be provided.
- IOSH or equivalent safety training is beneficial; candidates without formal qualifications will receive comprehensive safety training.
- Experience in spill response, industrial services, or environmental incident management is helpful, though not required — we will fully train the right person.
- Forklift licence or experience operating depot plant/towable equipment is a plus, but in-house training and certification can be arranged.
