POSITION SUMMARY


The Operations Controller provides strategic financial leadership and oversight for the organization's operations finance and project control functions. This role partners with operations, project management, and senior leadership to drive financial performance, improve project profitability, strengthen forecasting accuracy, and support business decision-making.


The position is responsible for leading the operational finance and project controls teams, establishing consistent financial processes, monitoring project and business performance, and identifying risks and opportunities across the organization. The Operational Controller serves as a key business partner to leadership by delivering financial insights, promoting accountability, and driving continuous improvement initiatives that support operational excellence and long-term business growth.


RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES


· Lead the operations finance and project controls organization, including oversight of the Operations Finance Manager, Senior Project Controller, and Project Controllers.

· Provide financial leadership and strategic business partnership to operations, project management, and senior leadership teams.

· Oversee and have full accountability for reporting of project financial performance, including budgets, forecasts, actuals, profitability, margin analysis, and cost-to-complete projections.

· Establish and standardize project controls processes, reporting, and forecasting practices across the business.

· Monitor project and operational KPIs, identify financial risks and opportunities, and drive corrective actions to improve business performance.

· Lead the budgeting, forecasting, and monthly financial review processes for operations and project activities.

· Support capital investment decisions through financial modeling, ROI analysis, and post-project evaluations.

· Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting standards, company policies, and financial reporting requirements.

· Develop, mentor, and coach finance and project controls team members while building organizational capability and accountability.

· Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on operational efficiency, project execution, reporting accuracy, and financial performance.

REQUIREMENTS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES)

· Proficiency in financial systems (e.g., Made to Manage, SAP) and Microsoft Excel.

· Strong knowledge of operational finance, project controls, cost accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance management.

· Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify financial risks, evaluate business performance, and translate complex data into actionable recommendations.

· Strong business acumen with the ability to partner effectively with operations, project management, and senior leadership to support strategic decision-making.

· Proven ability to lead and develop finance and project controls teams while driving accountability, process improvement, and business results.

· Knowledge of project management methodologies (e.g., PMI, Agile) is a plus.



EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (required levels)

· Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.

· Professional certification (e.g., CPA, CMA)

· Prior experience in a publicly traded company or with SOX compliance (preferred).

· Experience leading finance teams within a manufacturing, industrial, or project-based environment.

· Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, project controls, or operational finance leadership.
