FMI Corporation is a leading consulting and investment banking firm dedicated to serving companies working within the built environment. FMI’s Performance consulting practice partners with leading construction firms to improve operational performance, expand margins, and manage enterprise risk.

This position is focused on helping large, complex construction organizations improve the consistency and effectiveness of execution across critical business functions, including project management, project controls, estimating, preconstruction, procurement and supply chain, equipment and fleet management, and field operations. Consultants work alongside senior executives and operational leaders to assess performance, identify improvement opportunities, and implement practical solutions that create measurable and lasting business impact.

This individual will work with and lead consulting project teams to deliver world-class consulting services while helping clients drive meaningful organizational change. The ideal candidate combines strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with sound business judgment, a bias for action, and a passion for helping organizations perform at their highest level. This individual will also contribute thought leadership and present industry insights to both small and large audiences.

This full-time opportunity requires 50%- 60% travel and can be based in our office in Denver, Colorado.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with executives and operational leaders at leading construction firms to improve business performance, operational effectiveness, and profitability.
  • Work collaboratively with FMI consulting teams to design and deliver tailored, industry-leading solutions that address complex business and operational challenges.
  • Assess client performance through data analysis, operational diagnostics, stakeholder interviews, and field observations to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Facilitate workshops, planning sessions, and leadership discussions that build alignment, commitment, and accountability around performance improvement initiatives.
  • Develop, recommend, and help implement transformative solutions that improve consistency of execution, operational discipline, organizational effectiveness, and financial results.
  • Support clients through implementation and change adoption efforts to ensure sustainable improvements and measurable business outcomes.
  • Contribute to FMI’s thought leadership by developing insights, sharing industry best practices, and presenting to clients and industry audiences.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (required) in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business/Finance, or related field.
  • Master’s degree in business (strongly preferred), Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Relevant consulting and/or construction industry experience, with demonstrated exposure to operational improvement, project delivery or business performance initiatives.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to connect operational performance with financial outcomes.
  • Exceptional analytical, quantitative, and structured problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including confidence facilitating discussions and presenting to executive and operational audiences.
  • Demonstrated initiative, intellectual curiosity, and a desire to learn in a fast-paced consulting environment.
  • Professional maturity, integrity, and the ability to influence others, build relationships, and drive change within complex organizations.
  • Ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment while working effectively both independently and as part of a team.


Base Salary Range: $121,000 - $148,000 annually DOE.

Annual Incentive Bonus: Eligible for an annual performance-based bonus with a target opportunity of 25% of base salary. Actual bonus payouts may vary based on individual and company performance.

FMI provides a comprehensive benefit package consisting of paid employee medical insurance, life insurance and LT disability, as well as other benefit elections. FMI’s package includes a strong 401(k) plan, PTO, and parental leave benefit.

Skills Required
