Role Summary
At athenahealth, we are transforming the way healthcare works. As an Associate on the Payer Portal team, you will support solutions that reduce friction in revenue cycle operations and improve outcomes for healthcare providers.
This role is focused on operational execution, workflow analysis, and continuous improvement. You will help identify issues, support implementation of process changes, track key metrics, and collaborate with stakeholders across the business. The role reports to the appropriate team leader within the Payer Portal organization.
Team Summary
The Payer Portal Management Zone simplifies how healthcare organizations interact with payer systems. The team builds scalable, automated, reliable, and secure access to payer portals, helping reduce administrative effort and improve operational efficiency across the revenue cycle.
The team works across operations, product, and technology to solve complex problems that affect payer interactions and downstream business outcomes. Team members contribute to workflow improvement, issue analysis, and support for changes that improve consistency, reliability, and client experience.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Execute operational and strategic initiatives that support unit cost reduction, improved business outcomes, and reduced client effort.
- Analyze workflows and support root cause analysis to identify inefficiencies and recurring issues.
- Support implementation of workflow changes and product updates.
- Track and report on assigned metrics and operational outcomes.
- Participate in stakeholder discussions and escalate risks or blockers as needed.
- Identify process inefficiencies and recommend practical improvements.
- Use AI-assisted tools to organize recurring operational findings, summarize workflow patterns, and support faster review of metrics and issue trends while applying human judgment to confirm actions and decisions.
Additional Job Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners to support issue resolution and process improvements.
- Document workflow observations, action items, and follow-up needs.
- Assist in preparing status updates and operational summaries.
- Support ongoing team activities and special projects as assigned.

Expected Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- 5–7 years of experience in a fast-paced environment.
- Exposure to US healthcare RCM is preferred.
- Foundational understanding of revenue cycle workflows.
- Basic analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and execution discipline.
- Willingness to learn and adapt.
