Job Listing:  OPERATIONS ACCOUNTANT—Accounting Degree required

WPLG, a top television station in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale market, is looking for a take-charge professional who can execute a broad range of functions in day-to-day Operations, Cash Applications, Fixed Assets, Financial Statements, and Budget Variance Analysis. 

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (interacts with Controller and AR Manager):

• Train in WideOrbit—Broadcast TV’s platform for recording sales, applying payments, and keeping track of accounts receivable.
  • Process and apply daily cash receipts (ACH, checks, credit cards) accurately. Prepare supporting documentation to ensure a complete audit trail for journal entries.
  • Reconcile daily traffic logs and prepare daily sales pacing reports.
  • Generate billing once a month and prepare revenue journal entries.
• Learn and understand the Revenue/Accounts Receivable process (sales order input, credit approval, credit research, collections, and cash applications) in a TV station.
• Prepare other monthly journal entries and support schedules.
  • Calculate monthly accruals, prepaid expenses, music fees, depreciation and amortization schedules, other revenue.
  • Update excel pivot tables from bank account downloads which are then used to prepare reports for cash disbursement journal entry.
  • Scan all monthly journal entries and support to a shared drive.
• Ensure financial transactions are performed in compliance with GAAP and company policies.

• Fixed Asset Maintenance
  • Train in Sage Fixed assets software
  • Compile monthly fixed asset records from vendor payable system to enter fixed asset additions, disposals, reconciliations, and supporting schedules. 
  • Reconcile subsidiary ledgers to GL account in accounting system and update Capital Expenditures file.
• Variance Analysis
  • Review historical information and forecast trends. 
  • Review actuals and compare them to budget and/or prior periods.  Explain significant variances between actual and budget and research detail of recorded transactions.
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly.
• Reconcile bank accounts monthly and investigate discrepancies.
• Collaborate with accounting team on special projects and process improvement initiatives.
  • Gather supporting documentation for internal and external audits.
  • Provide administrative support including filing, copying, emails, and phone calls.

SKILLS/EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIRED:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.  Must present proof of degree.
• 3+ years of general accounting experience; Strong analytical skills.
• Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Deliver accurate results.  Perform self-checks to identify errors before submitting final work product.
• Demonstrate effective organizational and time management skills with respect to deadlines. 
• Work independently with minimal supervision and/or in collaboration with other team members.  Self-motivator.
• Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate a sense of urgency. 
• Exercise good judgment and planning skills.  Work ahead. Take advantage of down time to prepare/fulfill future tasks so that the workload does not accumulate at the end of the month.
• During Month-end, Quarter-end accounting closings, preparation of Annual Budgets and Special Projects, the goal is to meet deadlines or complete the project in an accurate and timely fashion.  Additional hours will be necessary.
• Understanding and knowledge of accounting terms, journal entries and financial statements.  Knowledge of accounting software systems (e.g. SBS) 
• Fluency in Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint); Pivot tables a plus.
• Media/broadcast industry familiarity is a plus.
• Some supervisory experience is also preferred.
• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.

WORK ENVIRONMENT and PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Hybrid schedule—requires 3 days in office or more when needed and 2 days remote.  Days TBD on a weekly basis as work deadlines demand.
• Requires continuous visual ability on computers for extended periods.
• Requires sitting, stooping, bending and lifting to 25 lbs.
