We are seeking an Operational Risk Oversight Manager – Operational Resilience to join the team in the Second Line of Defence. With operational resilience being a critical enabler of our strategy and the delivery of positive customer outcomes, this role will focus on how Nationwide manages and governs resilience outcomes. By identifying and challenging resilience risks and frameworks, the team helps to protect Nationwide and its members.

As part of our independent Second Line Operational Risk Oversight team, you will play a pivotal role in delivering the Society’s objectives. The team’s mission is to ensure that non-financial risks are effectively managed so that Nationwide can serve its members safely and reliably. You will work closely with our First Line third-party risk team, Supplier Relationship Managers, Procurement teams, and business areas that rely on critical suppliers. Your role will be to provide guidance on good risk management practices and to ensure compliance with operational resilience frameworks, policies, and evolving regulations.

In practice, you will engage with business leaders to challenge how they assess and mitigate supplier risks, particularly as regulatory expectations around operational resilience continue to evolve. Your oversight responsibilities will include reviewing resilience methodologies, monitoring resilience-related controls and reporting, and evaluating the operational resilience framework to identify gaps and opportunities for maturity. You will also provide oversight of Important Business Services (IBS) and Important Technology Operations (ITOL) refreshes, resilience mapping, scenario testing, and annual self-assessments.

In addition, you will play a key role in refining resilience policies, including embedding them within enterprise risk management frameworks, and in summarising your oversight findings for senior management and risk committees. By maintaining a clear view of the Society’s resilience posture and collaborating with Operational Risk and Compliance specialists, you will support the Director of Operational Risk in upholding robust resilience standards and protecting our members from potential disruption.

We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best.

At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon, London or Glasgow office. If you’re based at our Glasgow office, this will apply from 1 April 2027 and ahead of that there will be a need to regularly connect with colleagues for collaboration events. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here

If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.

Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing

You will deliver Operational Risk oversight of Nationwide’s resilience posture, including the design and operation of resilience policies, frameworks, and methodologies. You will monitor and assess how effectively Nationwide manages its resilience, whether by reviewing methodologies, evaluating compliance with resilience-related policies, or conducting assurance activities.

On a typical day, you may work alongside colleagues in Operational Resilience, Incident Management, and Risk teams to identify potential vulnerabilities and help plan actions to address them. You will stay up to date with industry and regulatory developments in resilience, providing expert guidance to First Line teams on how to meet evolving requirements.

Through independent challenge and by sharing your insights with senior management, you will provide assurance that Nationwide’s resilience posture is robust and well governed. In doing so, you will directly support the Director of Operational Risk’s focus on safeguarding our members and ensuring the continuity of our services.
