Purpose of Role
This hybrid role is an ideal opportunity for a candidate with technical acumen to work within Man Group Operations team. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 2 years relevant technical experience and will focus on supporting and improving various operational processes and functions. Creating a career pathway is something we hold in high regard and this role allows you to hone your technical skills whilst gaining a better understanding of how large investment management firms work, creating excellent insight into other parts of the business.
The Solutions team sits within Investment Operations and its objectives are:
- To support and maintain Duco which is one of MGO’s most widely used vendor systems. This reconciliation system has approximately 150 users and is leveraged for numerous functions within the business, such as reconciliations, regulatory reporting, and data management.
- To provide technical/analytical support for the BAU teams within Investment Operations as an alternative to the core technology teams, utilizing skills such as Python, SQL, Tableau and automation tools.
- To focus on project delivery, operational process efficiency and the control environment. Examples of project types are new system implementations, asset class launches or operational efficiencies/automation.
Specific Responsibilities
- Act as a central point of contact and technical support for Duco / Tableau / Python queries and ensure timely resolution of queries related to the reconciliations / data flow
- Process oversight through the provision of meaningful MIS. This would involve ownership of existing Tableau dashboards, and the development of new, Tableau / Python dashboards using source data from Duco or other internally / externally hosted systems
- Development of Python code and MIS to improve and ensure the integrity of Investment Operations data, contributing to reducing the risk exposure of the department
- Represent the Investment Operations Solutions team across Man Group
- Identify, improve, and document processes and technology requirements and enhancements
- Continually improve data quality and consistency
- Promote and manage alternative forms of automation within Investment Operations e.g. creation of SlackBots and Mailbots, scheduling scripts, dashboarding, leveraging existing Microsoft products etc.
- Liaise with internal clients (such as trading and investment teams, core technology, sales, and new business teams, etc) as well as external counterparties (such as executing brokers, clearing brokers, prime brokers, etc).
Technical Competencies
- Python – Intermediate Level: Proficient in core Python programming with working knowledge of data manipulation and transformation libraries including Pandas (DataFrames, data cleaning, aggregation, merging) and NumPy (array operations,).
- Ability to write clean, maintainable code for data processing workflows and ETL operations using Python.
- Microsoft Excel – Intermediate Level: Proficient in advanced Excel functionality including lookup and reference functions, Excel Tables with structured references, pivot tables, data validation, and conditional formatting. Capable of creating dynamic formulas and performing comprehensive data analysis tasks.
- SQL – Intermediate Level: Understanding of relational database concepts with proficiency in writing queries including multiple table JOINs (INNER, LEFT, RIGHT, FULL OUTER), Common Table Expressions (CTEs), subqueries, aggregate functions (SUM, COUNT, AVG, GROUP BY) and window functions.
- Keen attention to detail with strong organisational skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills and confident in raising questions
