Position Overview
The Finway Group, a Strongpoint partner, is seeking a Retirement Onboarding Manager to lead a team of Retirement Onboarding Specialists and deliver a seamless experience for new retirement plan clients.
In this role, you will oversee the full plan onboarding process, from prior plan document review and provision mapping to recordkeeper coordination and final plan documentation. You will also coach and develop the specialists who manage this work every day.
The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of qualified retirement plans and a proven track record of leading people. You set clear expectations, maintain a high bar for accuracy, and build processes that scale as the business grows—all while keeping the client experience at the center of the team’s work.
Please Note: This is a fully remote position for candidates located in the Eastern and Central time zones only. Due to the primary locations of our client teams, preference will be given to candidates in the Atlanta area who are able to work on a hybrid schedule.
Key ResponsibilitiesTeam LeadershipLead, coach, and develop a team of Retirement Onboarding Specialists, including hiring, training, goal setting, and performance management
Assign and balance onboarding caseloads based on plan complexity, team capacity, and client deadlines
Serve as the escalation point for complex plan provisions, challenging conversions, and client or partner concerns
Build a team culture centered on accountability, collaboration, accuracy, and continuous learning
Oversee onboarding for all new retirement plan clients, ensuring key milestones and deadlines are met across the full book of business
Review plan document mapping, amendments, restatements, Summary Plan Descriptions (SPDs), and related materials for accuracy and compliance before finalization
Own onboarding systems, status reporting, and documentation, and provide leadership with visibility into pipeline, timelines, and team performance
Lead plan provision and onboarding calls for complex or high-priority clients, advising clients and advisors on plan design options and next steps
Guide the team on plan design improvements and solutions for provisions that may not be supported by recordkeepers
Build and maintain standard operating procedures, checklists, and quality control practices for the onboarding process
Serve as a primary point of contact for recordkeepers, advisors, and internal teams to resolve recurring issues and keep projects moving
Identify and implement improvements to processes, workflows, and technology as the business grows
Stay current on ERISA, IRS, and legislative changes affecting qualified retirement plans, translating updates into actionable guidance and training for the team
Perform other duties as assigned
7+ years of experience working with retirement plan documents, qualified retirement plans, or TPA operations
2+ years of experience supervising, managing, or leading a team
Expert understanding of ERISA and IRS regulations governing qualified retirement plans
Extensive experience reviewing, interpreting, and drafting retirement plan documents
Deep understanding of 401(k) plan provisions and plan design concepts
Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines across a team
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex retirement plan concepts to clients, advisors, and leadership
Strong coaching skills and the ability to provide clear, constructive feedback
Sound judgment, a proactive and solutions-oriented approach, and a strong sense of ownership
Experience building or scaling an onboarding, conversion, or implementation team
Experience with plan amendments, restatements, SPDs, and other compliance documents, including managing document restatement cycles
Experience with 401(k) plan administration, including compliance testing and plan operations
Familiarity with retirement plan document and administration systems, as well as workflow or project management tools
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $65,000–$80,000 annually, depending on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.

- 7+ years of experience working with retirement plan documents, qualified retirement plans, or TPA operations
