Office of the Provost and Executive Vice-President (Academic), Bureau du rayonnement du français 

Position Summary:

Parcours FrancoVille invites newly arrived international students to discover Montreal, the francophone metropolis of the Americas, over a day-long urban scavenger hunt. Working in teams alongside their guides, participants make their way through the city's liveliest neighbourhoods, step inside landmark cultural institutions and take on a series of interactive challenges that call on their curiosity, their creativity and their team spirit. The day closes with a festive evening at the MEM, where teams are rewarded.

McGill is hiring guides from within its student community to accompany the participating teams on September 11th, 2026.

General requirements

  • Be a current McGill student, at either the undergraduate or the graduate level
  • Superior command of the French language, particularly spoken French
  • Good knowledge of Montreal and public transportation
  • Be comfortable walking for several hours, as the day is spent moving through the city on foot and by public transit
  • Availability for one hour of mandatory online training the week before the event (week of August 31)
  • Availability on Friday, September 11, from 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., including the prize ceremony and the 5 à 7

Tentative Schedule for September 11th, 2026

9 h 30    Guides arrive at the UdeM MIL campus (De l'Acadie or Outremont metro station)
10 h 30  Welcome the participants
11 h 00  Welcome speech and presentation of the routes and challenges
11 h 30  Meal (provided by the organizers)
12 h 00 Start of the route
16 h 30 End of the route
17 h 00 5 à 7 / Festive happy hour and prize ceremony at MEM, Montreal Memory Centre

Tasks

  • Build team spirit from the morning gathering onward and make the day an enjoyable, stimulating experience for the whole group
  • Support participants in French, whatever their level, and create an atmosphere in which everyone feels comfortable speaking up
  • Ensure that every team member takes part in the challenges and finds their place within the group
  • Encourage open discussion among team members
  • Guide the team in keeping with the schedule so that it can complete all of the challenges within the time available
  • Take on the challenges alongside the team and steer them toward the solutions rather than handing the solutions over

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

  • We are looking for people who are upbeat and professional in equal measure, with a strong team spirit and a knack for keeping a group together and in good spirits from the morning through to the evening. The ideal candidate is punctual and energetic, loves Montreal and enjoys showing it off to peers, and is happy to spend the day on foot taking on a scavenger hunt alongside their team.
