About Security Level 5

Security Level 5 is a Bay Area AI security nonprofit working with AI labs and US intelligence agencies to defend frontier models from priority nation-state-level threats. We move fast, and we're tripling headcount this year.

The Mission

We're hiring for what's plausibly the most difficult, urgent, and interesting challenge in AI security engineering this decade (for humans, at least): designing and building the first datacenter purpose-built to Security Level 5, the standard for defending frontier AI labs against attackers with the resources of a nation-state and billion-dollar budgets. We're working on the first SL5 components this year and aiming for an at-scale SL5 datacenter build in 2027.

We wrote the first version of the standard with input from CISOs and senior security staff at the frontier labs, and US security and intelligence officials. Now we're designing the SL5 architectures purpose-built for frontier AI workloads, and standing up the reference tech stack to guide labs' buildouts. This stack has to hold against nation-states, not destroy researchers' productivity, not cost more than labs can pay, and ship in 2-3 years.

What you’d work on

  • Setting up and running our SF office. We're Berkeley-based and moving to a space in San Francisco. You'd be in charge of move-in, selection and procurement, build-out, and then running and improving the space day to day. You’d coordinate suppliers, vendors, food, access management, respond to office members, and

  • Owning events end to end. Coordinating work happy hours, conference logistics, our quarterly onsites, and being our space’s point of contact for external organizations hosting events in our space. You run logistics, speaker and attendee coordination, space, AV, food, and day-of execution across several concurrent planning tracks.

  • Build the systems that make events easier to throw in the future. Create templates, checklists, and budgets for your own use, as well as pleasant-to-interact-with documentation that helps our members be oriented to, and seamlessly use, our space.

  • Own tooling and everyday norms for the space. Choose and manage the event and office tools you run on, and keep the everyday policies people actually use (expenses, travel, calendar) as living documents.

You’d be a fit if you

  • Have 3+ years across office management, events, operations, or executive support, ideally at a startup or high-performing nonprofit. Bonus for having owned both a physical space and an events program.

  • Run several events at different planning stages without losing threads.

  • Process-oriented while also being instance-oriented.

  • Care about attendee experience, the feel of the space, the small touches that make things feel handled.

  • Are service-minded and fine with some repetition, motivated by impact over glamour, and habitually asking whether this is the highest-value thing to be doing right now.

  • Are willing to work some flexible hours when we host events.

  • Care about the mission. You think AI could reshape the coming decade and want to help it go safely, with a realistic read on both the upside and the risks.

Logistics

Bay Area, in-person. This role's base salary range is $120,000 - $160,000 USD per year. We may be open to paying exceptional and/or highly experienced employees more than this. We also provide full benefits, including healthcare, dental, vision, 401k match, and more.

Skills Required

  • 3+ years across office management, events, operations, or executive support
  • Experience selecting, procuring, and building out office space and coordinating vendors
  • Experience managing event logistics including AV, food, speakers, attendees, and day-of execution
  • Ability to run several events at different planning stages without losing threads
  • Process-oriented while also being instance-oriented (create templates, checklists, budgets, documentation)
  • Choose and manage event and office tools and maintain everyday policies (expenses, travel, calendar)
  • Willingness to work flexible hours for events
  • Care about attendee experience and the feel of the space; attention to small details
  • Experience owning both a physical space and an events program
  • Care about the mission (interest in AI safety/security)
