Job Duties
1. Prioritizes workload and prepares for the specific operative procedure utilizing appropriate Preference Care/Case Cart Requisition
2.Ensures OR is stocked and ready for each case
3.Demonstrates acceptable standards of aseptic technique when scrubbed
4.Demonstrates a working knowledge of the surgical procedure, instrumentation, supplies and equipment needed
5.Responds appropriately to any unanticipated or emergency situation that may arise intra-operatively
6.Utilizes equipment properly, according to manufacturers recommendation and adhering to OR protocols
7.Assures equipment is cleaned and maintained for use by the next staff member and/or patient.
8.Follows the hospital's policy and procedures on discarding contaminated and hazardous materials
9.Resource for staff on all orthopedic procedures.
10.Provides information on existing orthopedic procedures and new procedures - techniques and instrumentation.
11.Provide hands-on training for all staff and maintain records of performance.
12.Communicates with vendors for appropriate instrument tray sets, supplies, educational information, etc.
13.Coordinate with OR/Sales Reps & Central Staff for sterility of trays, proper room set-up, supplies obtained in a timely manner.
14.Assists Materials management with ordering supplies and equipment and other various duties.
15.Help facilitate and prioritize "First Case" Ortho & Spinal Procedures, while assisting the Surgical teams in setting up.
Education/Experience Requirements
High School Diploma or Equivalent
BLS - AHA approved
Surgical Technician Certification (CST) Authorized by: NBSTA - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting
Graduate of Accredited Surgical Technician Program approved by:
CAAHEP - Commission on Accreditation of Allied health Education Programs or ABHES - Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools
Skills Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- AHA-approved Basic Life Support certification
- Certified Surgical Technologist certification authorized by NBSTA
- Graduation from an accredited surgical technician program approved by CAAHEP or ABHES
