HDR is looking for a New York/New Jersey Area Renewables Section Manager to join our growing Resources Business Group team.

As the Renewables Section Manager, you will be in position to inspire, lead and oversee the activities of a highly capable multi-discipline team involving mechanical, electrical, and civil/structural disciplines. You will help in managing a diverse power and energy business across numerous established client relationships as well as fostering new power and energy business within the industrial, institutional, developer, independent power producers, cooperatives, and utilities, both locally and in collaboration with other HDR Areas.

The Manager has overall administrative responsibility for operation of the Renewables team, including staff development, morale, workload, quality control of work products, and marketing support. Our services encompass owner's engineer work for PV, battery energy storage, and electric vehicle infrastructure, as well as consulting and design for renewables, energy storage, and microgrid applications. This position oversees staffing, financial management, client delivery, and quality control within the group. Responsibilities also include coordination of services with other sections and business groups within the New York/New Jersey Area as well as other HDR offices.

Additional responsibilities include coordination with other Renewables practice leaders through participation in practice meetings and strategy discussions. This individual will be involved in marketing planning, proposals, and interviews and will be directly involved with clients in marketing, project management and project production roles. The successful candidate will function as a project manager and provide technical leadership and support on projects in addition to fulfilling management responsibilities.

Other duties include ongoing development of both internal and external client relationships as well as marketing activities including support for proposal development and QA approvals.

Responsibilities include:

  • Facilitating teamwork, communication, and work-sharing between offices and business groups.
  • Maintaining accurate workload forecast reports and proactively resolving discrepancies between staff availability and anticipated workload.
  • Growing the size and capabilities of the team through recruitment, mentoring, staff development, staff retention, work-sharing, and training.
  • Growing the practice through client facing activities and marketing.
  • Working with internal practice leaders and client development leaders to identify/target clients and projects in an effort to expand the business in the Area.
  • Performing client management, project management and/or technical support activities.
  • Monitoring business results and implementing timely actions and process improvements.
  • Developing and/or reviewing project objectives, scope, estimates, schedules, work plans and staffing for power generation pursuits and projects.
  • Monitoring implementation of company policies, standards, quality assurance activities, and risk management activities.
  • Assigning appropriate staff to pursuits and projects that are supported by the Power Generation team.
  • Participating in business and community activities as a representative of HDR.
  • Some overnight travel will be required.

Qualifications

  • Engineering or related degree
  • Minimum 10 years' experience, including project and program management in the renewable industry.
  • Experienced in the successful development and management of diverse teams.
  • Committed to quality, improvement, and promoting company values at HDR.
  • Strong communication, leadership, planning, organization, and listening skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with clients in a technical and/or project management role.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Advanced degree in a related field.
  • Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience.
  • 15+ years of related experience.
  • Experience working cooperatively with staff in multiple offices.
  • Ability to lead and manage staff working from multiple office locations as well as from project site or field settings.
  • Demonstrated technical writing and editing/reviewing skills including estimating and proposals.
  • Prior marketing experience, particularly involving proposals for multi-discipline work performed by teams in multiple offices.
  • Active membership and participation in related professional societies or associations.
  • Local candidates are preferred.
