Nursing Skills Laboratory Coordinator
Midway University's School of Health Sciences is actively seeking a Nursing Skills Laboratory Coordinator. This position is responsible for the overall management and daily operations of the nursing skills and simulation laboratories. This position coordinates routine lab activities, supports faculty instruction, teaches and evaluates students in the lab setting, maintains the laboratory environment, and assists in the development and maintenance of the simulation-based curriculum. The coordinator also supports debriefing, reflective learning, and the use of simulation technology to enhance student performance and clinical reasoning. This position is a 9-month, non-tenure position. Some evening and weekend work will be required.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Assist faculty with scheduled lab teaching and simulation activities.
- Prepare supplies and equipment for skills lab sessions as directed by faculty.
- Supervise student lab activities outside of scheduled lab time, including practice, remediation, drills, and evaluation.
- Establish and maintain an open lab schedule each semester.
- Maintain the lab environment, including ordering durable and disposable supplies within budget and ensuring equipment remains in working order.
- Maintain records of lab section activity and student utilization of the laboratories.
- Complete annual inventory of supplies and equipment and report findings to the Dean of Health Sciences.
- Lead or support the development of simulation-based lab curriculum.
- Participate in training to become proficient in simulation technology and support simulation-based faculty development.
- Serve as a resource person for faculty and students regarding nursing lab operations.
- Develop and implement a database for tracking student laboratory utilization.
- Conduct tours and simulation sessions for internal and external groups.
- Collaborate with the Clinical Coordinator as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Nursing, from a regionally accredited program.
- Experience or demonstrated interest in skills lab instruction and the development of critical thinking skills in students.
- Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse license in the state.
- Proficiency in computer-based skills and willingness to adopt new technologies.
- Strong planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and external visitors.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with simulation-based education.
- Experience in nursing skills laboratory coordination.
- At least two years of teaching experience in nursing education.
- Familiarity with curriculum support, student assessment, and educational technology.
