Job Profile Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Clinical Informatics, the Informatics RN is the clinical knowledge expert providing the input into the design, development, evaluation and optimization of the clinical information systems. This on-site role works within the interdisciplinary team to assure a high value, user-friendly, comprehensive, integrated network which meets the needs of both clinicians and patients. The primary scope of this work is done within the Epic Electronic Health Record (EHR) and its associated 3rd party applications.

Job Overview

The Informatics RN is responsible for the coordination of nursing informatics day to day operations. This position works both inter- and intra-departmentally to create a system of quality health care utilizing the organization’s EHR and affiliated healthcare technology systems through the integration of clinical and informatics skills.

Shift: 36 hours per week, Day Shift. This position is onsite in Boston, Massachusetts.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Massachusetts RN Licensure.

2. 3 Years of RN Experience.

3. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

4. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

5. Master's in Informatics or pursuit of Master's required.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. 1-2 years of Informatics experience.

2. Previous Perinatal/Periprocedural experience.

3. Experience using Epic.

4. Experience working in complex healthcare organizations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

1. Implements applications, processes, and structures that assist clinicians with the management of data in patient care and provision of health care.

2. Ensures appropriate communication and documentation is complete in order to support application quality and development.

3. Manages and participates in clinical standardization efforts for the purpose of building clinical informatics systems, workflow analysis, and evidence-based content in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.

4. Leverages internal and external resources and tools to deliver a high-quality electronic health record.

5. Coordinates problem identification and resolution.

6. Supports end user adoption and sustainment of the EHR including routine rounding and at the elbow support across Tuft’s Medical Center.

7. Focuses on clinical utilization and workflow including patient safety and clinical outcomes through safe EHR use and practices.

8. Works directly with clinicians and clinical leadership to proactively assess adoption and sustainability of the electronic record.

9. Creates and fosters a learning environment that helps facilitate the professional growth and development of staff.

10. Participates in identifying needs at the organizational level and assists with strategic planning, organizing, executing, controlling, and evaluating systems, processes and practice, and information processing.

11. Attends and participates on committees, task forces, and meetings for coordination/facilitation of goals.

12. Advises and consults with clinical leadership regarding the identification of software and information infrastructure problem areas, determines procedural changes, or application program modifications, and assists with problem resolution.

1. Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.

Skills & Abilities:

1. Analytical Skills needed to work with and analyze complex data sets and to understand how trends and patterns drive decision making.

2. Effective Communication Skills needed to be a liaison between providers, IT, Clinical, and Allied staff.

3. Ability to be organized and systematic.

4. Ability to prioritize and simultaneously work on multiple projects.

5. Advanced computer skills.

6. Capacity to demonstrate initiative and leverage best practice recommendations to recognize and embrace opportunities for EHR Improvement.

The base pay ranges reflect the minimum qualifications for the role. Pay Range:


$91,879.42 - $117,150.49
