Job Description:

This recruitment will be used to fill multiple part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Undergraduate Research Assistant (URA) positions for the School of Nuclear Science & Engineering (NSE) at Oregon State University (OSU). 

This position performs a variety of duties including routine to complex technical or specialized tasks in support of research, clinical or administrative work. Positions may include laboratory research and data collection.

Position Duties

  • Perform laboratory experiments, tests, or simulations under supervision.
  • Set up, calibrate, and maintain research equipment; monitor supply inventory and assist with ordering materials as needed.
  • Accurately document experimental results, observations, and measurements in lab notebooks or electronic databases; maintain organized records for reproducibility.
  • Use software tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python, Excel) to analyze collected data, generate graphs/charts, and summarize findings for review by senior researchers.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and institutional compliance standards; participate in safety training as required.

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study

  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment

  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard

    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program

    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term

    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*

    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term

    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*


*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Preferred:

  • Undergraduate Engineering Major

  • GPA greater than 3.00

  • Major or Minor in Nuclear Science & Engineering

Working Conditions/Schedule:Work may be performed in labs or office spaces.
