Main Duties
  • Evaluate insurance applications, financial records, medical information and other documentation to determine eligibility and risk level.
  • Analyze risk factors and calculate appropriate premium rates, coverage limits and policy exclusions in accordance with underwriting guidelines.
  • Review and renew existing policies, adjusting terms based on claims history, market conditions and updated risk assessments.
  • Collaborate with insurance brokers, agents, claims staff and other stakeholders to clarify coverage, resolve issues and ensure accurate documentation.
  • Prepare and maintain thorough underwriting files, reports and correspondence for audit, regulatory compliance and management review.
  • Use underwriting software, databases and analytical tools to perform risk modeling, portfolio monitoring and trend analysis.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in insurance, finance, business administration, risk management or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in underwriting, risk assessment, or a related insurance role.
  • Solid knowledge of insurance products, policy wording, coverage types and underwriting principles.
  • Proficiency with underwriting systems, databases and standard office software such as spreadsheets.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills with keen attention to detail and sound decision-making ability.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work with brokers, agents and internal teams.
