WETM-TV/18 News is looking for an energetic Morning News Anchor to join our market-leading news team, where we pride ourselves on a true "team first" atmosphere. We celebrate daily wins, support one another without being asked, and make coaching a core part of our culture. We’re seeking an upbeat personality who balances serious reporting with relatable morning energy—someone who writes with a unique voice and is ready to build a genuine on-air connection with our morning meteorologist.
In this role, you will anchor and produce our Monday–Friday morning newscasts (5:00–7:00 a.m.) and assist with our noon broadcast at least twice a week.
While you will also produce the morning news, you won't be doing it alone. You’ll have extensive support through Nexstar, our parent company’s robust network, which includes content from sister stations nationwide, a Washington Bureau, and NewsNation, our company cable news network. It’s a wealth of resources—more than enough to help you build a compelling, high-quality show every single morning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Anchor & Report: Present news with a superior on-air presence and the ability to ad-lib effectively.
- Create Content: Research, pitch, and write original stories that resonate with our local community.
- Reporting & Production: Gather information through interviews and field research; shoot, edit, and produce compelling reports for broadcast and all digital platforms.
- Collaborative Planning: Coordinate with producers and news managers to determine story priorities, emphasis, and formatting.
- Editorial Excellence: Write and review copy for accuracy, grammar, and style, ensuring all content meets high journalistic integrity and production standards.
- Digital Engagement: Write for web/eMedia platforms and actively interact with viewers via social media.
- General Duties: Maintain organized notes and news files, meet strict editorial deadlines, and perform special projects as assigned.
Requirements & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Communication: Exceptional writing and oral skills with a sharp eye for editorial detail.
- Technical Proficiency: Comfortable with newsroom technology and standard office equipment.
- Reliability: A valid driver’s license, a good driving record, and the flexibility to meet tight deadlines.
