SMX is seeking a highly analytical Business Analyst with hands‑on production support experience and a proven ability to perform deep research, root‑cause analysis, and system investigation. This role focuses on understanding complex system behaviors, translating business rules into actionable technical requirements, and driving issue resolution across cross‑functional teams.
This position supports a Boston, MA - based customer. The role is primarily remote with occasional onsite meetings.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Production Support & Research Analysis
- Investigate and troubleshoot complex system issues by analyzing data, system logic, and business rules.
- Conduct deep‑dive research to understand current‑state processes, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
- Recreate and validate issues through structured triage processes.
- Translate system workflows and user behaviors into clear, actionable instructions for developers and QA.
- Document findings, assessments, and solution paths in a concise, structured format.
- Partner with client and developers to verify solution options, assess impacts, and ensure alignment with requirements.
- Provide knowledge transfer by explaining system logic, validation criteria, and expected outcomes.
Business Analysis & Requirements Development
- Analyze business processes to define requirements, identify gaps, and conceptualize future‑state workflows.
- Gather and document detailed user requirements, user stories, use cases, test scenarios, and test cases.
- Create process maps, workflow diagrams, and business process documentation (Lucid or similar tools).
- Present mockups, business rules, and data rules to stakeholders for review and approval.
- Translate business needs into functional and technical requirements that support solution design.
- Support project management activities including metrics, process evaluation, system analysis, and stakeholder reporting.
Enhancement Support
- Work with SMEs to define performance measures and data collection methodologies.
- Support feasibility assessments, impact analysis, and LOE development for enhancement requests.
- Participate in testing activities to validate enhancements and ensure alignment with requirements.
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required (additional relevant experience may substitute).
- 10+ years as a Business Analyst, with significant production support or application support experience.
- Strong analytical and investigative skills with the ability to self‑learn complex systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
- Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint and Word.
- Experience documenting functional and technical workflows, business rules/conditions, and system logic.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and drive issues to resolution.
