Job Summary
The Project Manager of New Business manages commercial, industrial, builder/developer, rural extension, and renewable energy projects providing an exceptional customer experience and attaining repeat business all while ensuring that the company meets its financial and program enrollment goals. The scope of this role includes new business gas distribution and electric transmission projects.
Essential Functions
- Reviews and analyzes complex construction drawings, permits, easements, agreements, and other miscellaneous documents for the design of gas and electric projects.
- Educated in gas and electric industry related knowledge and can provide technical advice to customers. Ability to advise customer on both sides of meter: our installation process in front of the meter as well as what the customer can anticipate behind the meter.
- Builds relationships with key organizations and external stakeholders.
- Works within a team environment to achieve common goals.
- Works to provide efficient and timely completion of gas and electric utility projects through to the installation of the meter interfacing with internal departments to provide an exceptional customer experience.
- Manages commit dates to ensure that all internal resources and materials are planned and aligned with customer’s site readiness.
- Understands and can communicate to customers, the company tariff, and how it impacts new business.
- Seeks capital authorization for new business investments in compliance with policy.
- Contracts with customer for service as specified and authorized by policy.
- Manages multiple electric and gas projects simultaneously at various stages of completion and recognize job site issues.
- Capability to efficiently perform duties under stringent deadlines, schedules, and conditions.
- Assist with restoration efforts during power outages.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Required Qualifications For Position
- Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience
- One (1) to two (2) years of experience in gas and electric distribution and transmission engineering principles.
- Ability to read/interpret construction prints, understand and apply basic surveying principles
- Knowledge of project management processes
- Working knowledge of budgeting and scheduling practices.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365
- Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
- Elevated level of people skills with the ability to communicate well with others and ability to manage and resolve demanding situations.
- Demonstrated problem solving, organization, time management, analytical and planning skills.
- Exercises independent judgment and initiates solutions with little supervision.
- High degree of organizational and planning skills
- Travel may be required.
- Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position
- Prior New Business project management experience
- Proficiency in NiSource’s work management systems and customer relationship management solutions.
- Prior experience with utility operations.
- Certified Project Management Professional (PMP)-PMI Upon Hire

Salary Range*:
$67,900.00 - $101,900.00*The salary offered to a candidate is based on several factors including but not limited to the candidate’s skills, job-related knowledge, and relevant experience, as well as internal pay equity.
